5 Popular Used Cars That Lost Ground in 2023
While last year’s top used car sales included the same players from 2022, the lookback reflects consumer sentiment over vehicle pricing and maintenance costs. As car shoppers became more fatigued by increased interest rates, retail prices lowered. Interesting shuffles resulted. Let’s review five popular used models that lost rank in 2023.
iSeeCars evaluated data from over 9.2 million used car sales last year. Here are the used car models that dropped in sales rank in 2023:
Model | 2023 Used Vehicle Sales Rank | 2022 Used Vehicle Sales Rank |
Ram 1500 | 4 | 3 |
Honda Civic | 6 | 5 |
Nissan Rogue | 10 | 8 |
Jeep Grand Cherokee | 12 | 10 |
Ford Escape | 13 | 9 |
There’s a healthy mix of big names on the list. The Ram 1500 remained in third place in its class but lost in terms of year-over-year sales percentages. The Tacoma is a distant fourth. This kept the Ford F-150 the expected winner and the Chevrolet Silverado in second place.
The Honda Civic lost its first-place slot for passenger cars, dropping to second under the Toyota Camry.
The Nissan Rogue grew slightly in sales but wasn’t as popular as others, hence the dip.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee was replaced by the Ford Explorer and the Honda CR-V.
Ford Escape lost 12% of its sales portion year-over-year, which was enough to plummet from 9th overall in 2022 down to 13th.
In contrast, the five most popular used car sales in 2023 were:
- Ford F-150
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- Chevrolet Equinox
- Ram 1500
- Toyota Camry
