If you’re in the market for a three-row SUV, then the 2022 Toyota Highlander is worth a look. It has a powerful V6 engine, enough seating for up to eight passengers, and loads of tech and safety features to keep your family safe and satiated for years to come. For 2022, there are currently seven different trim levels to choose from. But after a week of testing a 2022 Highlander, I feel that the top-trim Premium is the best one to get. Here are five reasons why.

1. Premium JBL audio system with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen

One of the key differences that you get with the 2022 Toyota Highlander Platinum trim over the lower trims is a premium JBL sound system with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Whether you’re an audiophile or not, I’m sure that you’ll appreciate the crisp and highs and lows that will come out of all 11 speakers placed strategically around the cabin for the best sound. Additionally, the large 12.3-inch screen is easy-to-use and navigate and the on-screen controls can be “shifted” for an easier reach for either the driver or the passenger.

2. Multiple interior color selections and real perforated leather interior

This one might seem a little arbitrary compared to the other reasons on this list, however, if you’re picky when it comes to interior colors, then the Platinum trim is for you. By selecting the primo trim on the Highlander, you’ll get to choose between four different interior colors: Black, Graphite, Harvest Beige, and Glazed Caramel. While that last sounds like a sweet treat, it is, as long as you find a saddle brown interior delicious.

On a serious note, every other Highlander trim only comes with three different color choices and the perforated leather is only available on the Platinum. The other trims get a faux-leather SofTex interior.

3. 7-passenger seating with second-row captain’s chairs

Remember when I said that the Highlander can fit up to eight passengers? It can, but if you only need seating for up to seven people, then the Platinum trim is for you. Instead of the usual rear-seat bench that you’ll find on the lower trims, the Platinum has second-row captain’s chairs, which can keep unruly siblings at a safe distance from each other. There’s also adequate space in the third row.

4. Bird’s eye view camera with a 360-degree overview

Another Highlander Platinum-specific option is a bird’s eye view camera that provides a 360-degree image of the car. This overhead image makes parking much easier and safer. There’s even a perimeter scan feature that uses the car’s cameras to scan around the car so that the driver is aware of any objects or kids in the way before moving.

5. Digital rearview mirror

Another cool feature is the digital rearview mirror. If you flip up the little lever on the rearview mirror it turns into a digital display that shows you the rear of the car, much like a backup camera. One nice aspect is that you can use it while driving to see what’s directly behind the car at all times.

The Toyota Highlander Platinum offers a lot of value for the money

These are only five of the main features that separate the Toyota Highlander Platinum from the lower trim levels, but there are plenty more features to enjoy on it. What’s even better is that the Platinum trim level is priced at $47,560 for the front-drive model ($49,510 for the AWD model), which is a great value considering everything you get for the money.

If you’re in the market for a three-row SUV, then be sure to check out the Toyota Highlander. And if you do, then the Platinum trim could be the best one for you.
