The 2023 Toyota Crown is the Japanese automaker’s newest sedan entry, but it’s actually a very old nameplate that’s had decades of success outside of North America. That being said, the brand-new Crown is also the first model year in the car’s 16th generation, and it sports a lot of good qualities. Here’s a look at the 2023 Toyota Crown and five reasons why you need to consider buying one.

The specs of the 2023 Toyota Crown

Off the bat, the Crown is only sold as a hybrid, but Toyota does provide car shoppers with powertrain options. The standard hybrid powertrain combines a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with three electric motors to generate 236 hp. Toyota offers a more powerful hybrid option, and it combines a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor to get 340 hp.

And despite earlier rumors, the Crown isn’t actually an SUV, but rather a lift-up sedan. This gives the Toyota more cargo capacity than a regular sedan, but it won’t be as large as an SUV or as spacious as a hatchback. The Crown has 15.2 cu-ft. of cargo capacity.

So, what are the reasons you should take a look at this new Toyota?

5. This flagship Toyota sedan has a good price

Toyota discontinued the Avalon after the 2022 model year, and now, the Crown is replacing the Avalon as Toyota’s flagship sedan. As such, it won’t be the Japanese giant’s cheapest sedan option, but it still has a good price for what it offers. 

According to Cars.com, the Crown starts at about $40,000, and that’s a competitive price to pay given what Toyota has equipped the car with. Despite the Toyota nameplate, this is essentially an entry-level luxury car.

A fully loaded version will cost about $53,000, and that’s still a fair price to pay given the competition in the entry-level luxury car market.

One of the things that Toyota equipped the car with is a unique look that most shoppers won’t find on another Toyota. It’s a modern and sleek look, and it’s certain to catch the eye of others.

If nothing else, this car is unique. The ‘lifted sedan’ look might take some getting used to, but it’s growing on us. 

3. Toyota gave the Crown a high-quality interior

Not only does the flagship sedan have a new look on the outside, but it’s also brand-new on the inside. This is another area where Toyota has packed a lot of value into the car. 

The Crown’s interior is well-designed and well-built as it used high-quality materials in the car’s construction. The front seats are heated, and Toyota also gave the car two 12.3-inch screens. One is a touch screen, and the other is a digital gauge display. 

2. It has a great fuel economy despite being heavy

Thanks to the fact that the Crown is a hybrid, it also has great fuel economy despite being a larger car that has all-wheel drive as standard. The standard 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain gets an estimated 42 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on highways, for 41 mpg combined. 

The more powerful 2.4-liter hybrid gets an estimated 29 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on highways, for 30 mpg combined. Not bad for a car that weighs more than 4,200 lbs.

1. The 2023 Toyota Crown has a great hybrid engine option

While the standard 2.5-liter hybrid is the economical option, the 2.4-liter hybrid, which is called Hybrid Max, is a real head-turner. The Hybrid Max is billed as a performance hybrid, and its 340 hp is more than enough to provide a lot of thrills on the road. 

On top of that, while the Crown isn’t a plug-in hybrid, it does have an electric-only driving mode. To be fair though, it’s only usable at low speeds and on short distances.
