Thanks to the launch of Hyundai’s Genesis brand and the shrinking luxury sedan segment, consumers often overlook the Kia Cadenza. That’s too bad because it’s a first-rate sedan that stacks up well against premium rivals from Cadillac, Lexus, and Volvo. But the fact that the Cadenza is overlooked makes it a steal.  

Bargain or not, the Cadenza has plenty going for it despite its retirement after the 2020 model year. If you’re looking for a used luxury car, here are five reasons to consider the often-skipped Kia Cadenza.    

1. Luxurious look and feel at a non-luxury price

The 2020 Kia Cadenza’s upscale interior provides the same quality and features buyers expect in the luxury category. It’s sleek and ergonomic, providing adjustable ambient lighting and supportive seats wrapped in rich leather. Cover the Kia badge, and you’d think you were in a Lexus or Audi. 

The cabin is also spacious, offering plenty of room for four or even five riders. And outward visibility is good thanks to the large windows and mirrors, eliminating most blind spots.  

2. Kia’s comprehensive warranty

To attract buyers, Kia began offering one of the best new-car warranties in the business, a practice that continues.  

Like all Hyundai and Kia models, the 2020 Cadenza comes with five years or 60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage with roadside assistance. The powertrain warranty is good for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Together, they cover almost anything you could want except for free maintenance. 

3. Tech features galore

All 2020 Cadenza trims boast a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with in-dash navigation and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration. Also included are Kia’s UVO eServices, including onboard telematics to diagnose mechanical problems, alert the driver to scheduled vehicle maintenance, and call for help in the event of an accident. 

In addition, you’ll notice several USB ports for media and charging and a pad for wireless smartphone charging — all standard equipment.

4. Smooth yet powerful performance

You won’t mistake the Kia Cadenza for a sports car, but the V6 engine is smooth and capable. This 290-hp powerplant provides sufficient thrust to match the soft, well-controlled suspension.  

The car is a competent performer, but sportiness isn’t the Cadenza’s forte. Its suspension quietly absorbs bumps and keeps body motions in check, C/D says. Steering is light, again prioritizing comfort over performance, but the car still handles well and inspires driver confidence.   

5. Decent fuel economy

The sublime V6 also gives the 2020 Cadenza commendable fuel economy. Car and Driver testers are known for their heavy feet, often getting “real-world” fuel economy that rarely matches EPA estimates. But not in the Cadenza’s case. In their test, C/D’s reviewers saw up to 31 mpg during a 200-mile highway drive, well above the EPA-estimated 27 mpg.

Because luxury car buyers overlook the Kia Cadenza, it’s often much cheaper than competitors from Audi, Cadillac, Lexus, and Volvo. But while the Cadenza costs less, it doesn’t offer less. Quite the opposite. It provides everything you could want or expect in a luxury sedan at a price that makes you feel like you got a screaming deal.
