If you’re planning to move across the country, or at least a really long distance away, then you have likely been tasked with the decision to either ship your car or drive it. We recently listed five reasons it’s better to ship your car a long distance. But now, here are five reasons it may actually be better to drive your car than to ship it.

You can enjoy the scenery

If you drive your car across the country, instead of getting it shipped, you will be able to reap the benefits of embarking on the long road trip ahead. As such, you’ll be able to take in the sights and sounds that this country has to offer whether you follow the blue line on your navigation of venture off onto the roads unknown. Either way, by choosing to drive your car, you will be able to make a whole road trip out of the occasion and possibly experience things that you otherwise wouldn’t if you shipped it.

The cost is lower

If you have looked into getting quotes from shipping companies, then chances are that you have experienced a barrage of prices that were way higher than you ever expected. And unfortunately, those same shipping companies won’t stop hassling you until you tell them too, either. However, if you make the brave choice to drive your car instead, then you can cut the moving cost in half (in some cases) as you’ll only need to pay for your fuel, lodging, and food.

Depending on how you plan the trip, driving your car can cost far less than it would if you got one of those companies to ship it.

You can time it how you want

Timing is everything nowadays, and if you ship your car, then you never really know when the shipping company will be able to pick it up and get it over to you. Along with the expensive shipping quote, the company probably quoted you a timeframe that’s worse than a cable companies appointment window. But if you choose to drive your car instead, then you can control when you pick your car and how long it will take to get to your destination.

Avoid scammers

Did you receive a shipping quote that sounds too good to be true? Chances are, it probably is. While we all want to believe that there is nothing but good people in this world, that is unfortunately not the case, even in the car shipping world. There are many auto shipping scammers out there that will handily “bait and switch” you when it comes to pricing. But if you drive your car, then you won’t have to worry about that.

You can pack what you need

If you’re moving a long distance, then you probably already figured out how to move all of your stuff over. And if you drive your car instead of shipping it, then you can also use it as an extra storage solution for your stuff as you can pack it with whatever you need. On the other hand, if you ship the car, then you won’t technically be able to load it up with your stuff since most shippers frown upon it. On top of that, your stuff could potentially be stolen as well.
