There are probably a million reasons that Nissan decided to kill off the Rogue Sport. It was a bit redundant, sitting right between the top trim level of the Kicks SUV and the lower trim models of the Rogue, so it didn’t sell particularly well, and it wasn’t a performance machine. But, there are still plenty of reasons to buy one new even if it won’t be around in 2023. Here are a few reasons to snap up a leftover 2022 model, or a find a used one.

The Rogue Sport is inexpensive to buy and drive

For 2022, the Rogue Sport’s starting MSRP is $24,260. Not many well-equipped SUVs can claim a price under $25,000. While it’s not a luxury SUV, it does have several standard features that make it a standout, such as Nissan Safety Shield and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a six-way drivers seat. Even with all the options ticked for the most expensive Rogue Sport SL version, it barely topped $30,000 new in 2022.

For many of us, the Kicks SUV is simply too tiny to get the kids, dogs, and all the stuff off to wherever we need to go. The Rogue seems just a bit too large for day-to-day commuting and errand running. So, when Nissan launched the Rogue with a 2.3-inch shorter wheelbase and an overall 12.1-inch shorter length, it seemed about right to thread tight urban environments. With the seats folded it can even hold up to 61.1 cubic feet of cargo space, which isn’t much less than the larger Rogue’s 70 cubic feet.

It offers big SUV safety systems

The Rogue Sport comes standard with Nissan’s Safety Shield 360, which adds automatic braking, lane departure warning, radar-based blind sport warning and rear cross traffic alert systems. Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist software is also available, and that system comes with an around-view monitor, traffic sign recognition, and much more to help keep the Rogue Sport safe.

You can get all-wheel drive

All wheel drive is a great feature the Rogue and Rogue Sport offer that you can’t get in the Kicks. It’s a $1,500 option on the Rogue Sport. The Rogue Sport offers a lot, so we read the CarScoops report that it was being killed for the 2023 model year with a tinge of sadness.

The Nissan Rogue Sport is reliable

The 2022 Rogue Sport earned a “Great” score for reliability of 82 from J.D. Power, which means that owners say it has fewer problems than average. Other publications, too, raved about its reliability. The 2020 version, which incidentally saw a facelift, earned an even higher score of 85. At RepairPal, which is an online firm that measure reliability, the Rogue Sport had zero reported issues, and Nissan as a brand has a 4.0 of 5.0 rating for reliability.
