If your daily commute consists of bumper-to-bumper traffic, then it’s important to have a car that’s comfortable enough for a lengthy drive and can get you to work and home safely. While there are many cars on the market that can do just that, we found that the 2020 Lexus RX350L takes it up a notch. Of course, you would probably expect nothing but comfort when driving a Lexus, however, we found five ways in which the RX can make your long commute much easier.

The Lexus RX is lavishly comfortable

With power-adjustable front seats and a leather-trimmed interior, it’s a no brainer that the Lexus RX will give you the comfort that you’re looking for. However, during our time with the RX, we appreciated how easy it was to get in and out of the car in addition to the multiple seating configurations the car had. Even while stuck in rush-hour traffic, the RX provided all of the comforts that we needed to get to our destination with ease.

Mark Levinson sound system

We’re kind of audiophiles, and if you are too, then you’ll appreciate the available 15-speaker Mark Levinson premium sound system. While the system only offers the basic equalizer functions, we were still able to tune it correctly to fit all of our music tastes and bask in its audio glory. And if you have a commute where you’re stuck in traffic for an hour or so every single day, then this premium audio upgrade is a must-have.

Lexus Safety System + 2.0

Driver-assist features are ubiquitous among most cars in the market today, and the Lexus RX is no exception. Armed with the Lexus Safety System + 2.0, the RX 350 provides you with features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with steering assist, a pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, and even Road Sign Assist. While these features by no means make for a “self-driving” effort, they do make traffic-filled commutes much easier.

For example, during the time that we spent wading through stop-and-go traffic, it was such a luxury to not have to so the “traffic dance” between the gas and brake pedals as the adaptive cruise control worked at slower speeds, following the car in front of us, and even came to a complete stop. You have to push the button to get the car going again, but it sure saves your right foot.

Fuel Economy

The Lexus RX is outfitted with a 3.5-liter, 290-hp V6 engine that’s able to achieve up to an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg in the highway. We actually averaged 25 mpg in combined driving, which isn’t bad considering it’s a heavy car with a V6 engine. However, if you really want to best mileage that this Lexus crossover has to offer, then we recommend getting the RX 450h, which utilizes a hybrid setup that consists of a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a dual-motor setup. With that configuration, you can expect a fuel economy bump up to 31 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

12.3-inch infotainment with navigation

Lastly, our tester came with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that was extremely easy to see and use. The standard size is 8.0 inches, and while that is likely big enough to see, we recommend upgrading to larger screen with the in-unit navigation. You might not think that you need the navigation function since you can just use the standard Apple Carplay and Android Auto functionality, however, it’s good to have for when your phone doesn’t have any service when you’re driving through a remote area, for example.

With its supple ride and soft handling characteristics, as well as the aforementioned features, this is one luxury crossover that you can easily drive for hours and possibly even make your dreaded commute more enjoyable.
