5 Reasons the Subaru Forester Is Perfect for Seniors
The older we get, the tougher it can be to find cars that will work for us. And while we all wish that we can stay as spry and sharp as possible, the truth of the matter is that we one day won’t be able to drive the sports cars and smaller sedans that once graced our garages. But that’s OK because there are small SUVs like the Subaru Forester to take care of us. Here five reasons the Subaru Forester is perfect for seniors.
The Forester has great visibility
Consumer Reports once reported on the “Best and Worst Cars and SUVs for Visibility,” and the Subaru Forester was voted the best in the compact SUV category. This doesn’t come as too much of shock because if you sit in the Forester for even a minute, you’ll notice just how large the windshield, side windows, and even the small windows by the A-pillar are. Some critics have commented that the Subaru Forester looks too boxy compared to others in its class, however, it’s apparently “hip to be square” when it comes to functionality and visual safety.
Amazing ingress and egress
In case you don’t know what the term “ingress and egress” means, don’t worry, it’s just a fancy way of saying that it’s easy to get in and out of the Subaru Forester. And while you might be agile enough to get out of a Lotus Elise now, just wait for another 20 to 40 years when you find it hard to get in and out bed, then you’ll be thankful that there are cars like the Forester with fantastic ingress and egress. Then again, we have no idea what cars will be like in 20 to 40 years. Hopefully, the Forester will still be around.
It’s great for all types of driving
With Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, the Forester has the ability to go on and off the road throughout all seasons of the year. This is especially important for those in their later years in life because having to deal with putting on winter tires or maybe chains can be a big pain. But with the Forester, you can just get in and go, no matter what Mother Nature has to throw at you.
Not much of a learning curve
Unlike some of its rivals, the Subaru Forester has an easy-to-use infotainment system and simple HVAC functionality. There are knobs for adjusting the radio volume and tuning that are easy to reach and it’s easy to adjust the auto-climate control settings via the twist of a large knob as well. This might not mean much to you in your younger years, but seniors will appreciate the lack of a learning curve just to change a radio station (we’re looking at you, Honda CR-V).
Lastly, it’s safe
We couldn’t come up with a list like this and not mention safety, which is important no matter what age you are. The 2021 Subaru Forester has eight different airbags, including knee airbags, to protect you and all of your passengers. What’s more, the Forester also comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of driver-assist features that includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and even a driver awareness monitor to catch you when you start to nod off. We won’t mention any senior citizen jokes, but you can at least bet that it’s safe for that demographic.
