There was nothing wrong with the 2022 Toyota Sequoia SUV, it was just geriatric. The current second-generation Sequoia came out in 2008 and while it was a big step up at the time for Toyota, competitors have done a lot to become more competitive. But now there’s a new 2023 Toyota Sequoia that ditches the old thirsty V8, updates the styling, and makes it more comfortable with packages like the new Sequoia Capstone. If you’re considering buying a leftover 2022, here are five reasons to wait for the new 2023 Toyota Sequoia.

How much does a new 2023 Toyota Sequoia cost?

The three-row base 2023 Toyota Sequoia starts $58,300 for the SR5 4×2 package. The Limited starts at $64,700, Platinum at $70,900 and the Sequoia Capstone at $75,300. Four-wheel drive is a $3,000 option in each model, except for the TRD PRP 4×4, which only comes with four-wheel drive. Toyota quotes a $1,495 delivery fee. The Sequoia is built on the new Toyota Tundra chassis, which means that it’s assembled in San Antonio, Texas.

The new hybrid engine

Toyota calls its new engine the i-FORCE MAX. It’s a turbocharged hybrid V6 that is, by almost every measure, a better powerplant than the outgoing V8. The new V6 makes more power, up to 437 horsepower, yet uses far less fuel. The new engine may not have that great V8 rumble, but once you experience the quiet, smooth, acceleration you’ll forget that you’re saving fuel. Toyota warranties the hybrid parts of the motor for 100,00 miles or eight years.

The new 2023 Toyota Sequoia has an 8.0-inch or available 14.0-inch touchscreen that controls the new system. Or, you can just say, “Hey Toyota.” The voice-activated system allows you to search for directions, and adjust controls like the radio and the heater. The new navigation system can receive over-the-air updates to continuously stay updated, and it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

TRD PRO will bring off-road capability

The Sequoia is designed to ride like a big luxury SUV, but it keeps one key element that gives it truck-like ability: a solid, lockable, rear axle. That enables Toyota to add the impressive TRD PRO off-road package, and all of its assorted goodies like hill descent control, skid plates, FOX brand internal bypass shocks and more. The TRD Pro comes only as a seven-seater with captain’s chairs in the second row. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD PRO 4×4 version starts at $76,900

The Toyota Sequoia Capstone edition will bring the luxury

The top-of-the-line 2022 Toyota Sequoia Capstone will start at $75,300, and the 4×4 package starts at $78,300. Yes, that’s a lot of dough, but you get a lot of luxury in the new Capstone package. It comes with 22-inch chrome wheels, power running boards, walnut trim, and leather seats. Reviewers are saying it’s one of the best SUVs ever made.

The Sequoia has a basic 36-month/36,000-mile warranty that covers pretty much everything and a 60-month/60,0000-mile powertrain warranty. ToyotaCare, however, adds to that. Toyota will cover the factory-scheduled maintenance like oil changes and offer 24-hour roadside assistance for 25,000 miles or two years.
