The rising popularity of Tesla Model X in the past decade has made the brand a household name. And while the ubiquitous recognition is great for the company, it tends to overshadow other electric offerings in the market. One such contender is the Audi E-Tron.

The E-Tron came out more recently and is Audi’s first full-electric product in the lineup. And while there will be more electric Audis to come, we decided it’s a great time to shed some light on five reasons that the current E-Tron SUV is better than the highly-coveted Tesla Model X.

Faster charging time

Sure, the Tesla Model X is rated at a minimum of 350 miles on a single charge and the Audi E-Tron has a range of an EPA-estimated 204. But what most consumers don’t think about it the recharge time.

Imagine being out on the road and having to wait an hour to hour-and-a-half to recharge your Tesla, at that rate, you’ll probably wish that you were driving an E-Tron. The Audi’s recharge time is rated at 30 minutes to get to 80 percent from a completely empty battery due to a higher rate of charge capacity.

The Audi E-Tron is able to be charged at a maximum 150-kW with a DC fast charger, while the Model X’s maximum charge rate is 120-kW with the brand’s supercharger.

Lower price

The Audi E-Tron has two different trim levels to choose from, however, the base Premium Plus trim starts at $74,800. If you want amenities like a head-up display, Valcona leather, and massaging seats, then you can opt for the Prestige trim level for $4,300 more.

The Tesla Model X, on the other hand, starts at $84,990 (before any rebates or savings) and can go up well over $104,000 with all of the option boxes checked. You might be wondering, “Does the Tesla Model X have massage seats or a head-up display at that price point?” No, surprisingly, it does not.

Standard Apple Carplay and Android Auto

Infotainment systems are an important part of any new car nowadays, and even more important is the existence of Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The Audi E-Tron comes standard with both phone integration programs, just like the other cars in the Audi lineup.

Does the Tesla Model X have Apple Carplay? Sadly, it does not.

Overall styling

As always, looks are subjective and time has shown that a lot of consumers do like the Model X’s overall egg shape and gull-wing doors. However, we think it still looks alien-like and other people do as well. Luckily, the Audi E-Tron looks like a normal SUV and functions like one, too.

There are no fancy doors here, although, it does have a power-closing trunk with a hands-free feature.

Service infrastructure

While Tesla Service Centers are pretty widespread all over the country, there’s no doubt that there are more Audi dealerships in which you can take your E-Tron. If you need assistance, you can just press the button near the sunroof and an Audi 24-hour maintenance will happily get you towed the nearest dealer.

Go with the veteran

Above all else, keep in mind that Audi has been making cars for 100 years and its build quality is superb, considering its been keeping up with Mercedes and BMW all of these years. While we have much respect for Tesla and its products, it’s clear to see why the Audi E-Tron is a perfectly viable choice for an electric car.
