When it comes to the full-size pickup truck category, the Ford F-150 seems to always reign supreme. However, the RAM 1500 was redesigned for the 2019 model year and now boasts a nicer interior, bolder looks, and a host of features that give the top-contending F-150 a run for its money. But the F-150 wouldn’t be America’s best-selling truck for the past four decades if it didn’t come with some of the best features that you can find in a pickup. As such, here are five different ways in which it bests the RAM 1500.

More towing capacity

The Ford F-150 wouldn’t be the best if it didn’t tow more than everything else in the class, including the RAM 1500. The F-150 can tow up to 13,200 pounds when it’s properly equipped and it even helps the driver when doing the arduous task as well.

The F-150 is available with Trailer Backup Assist, which allows the driver to simply twist a knob in the direction that they want the trailer to go and the truck does all the steering. If the large towing capacity wasn’t enough, this handy feature goes to show that the F-150 does just about everything.

Better safety ratings

The Ford F-150 received high marks when it comes to safety. The IIHS rated the F-150 with the highest marks in each of their categories and NHTSA gave the truck an overall 5 out of 5 stars. The RAM 1500, on the other hand, scored a little lower with NHTSA and received a 4 out of 5-star rating, however, it did get similar ratings to the F-150 according to the IIHS.

Better pricing

Both the RAM 1500 and Ford F-150 are priced well according to their feature sets and trim levels, however, the F-150 carries a lower base price. The lowest XL trim level starts at $28,745 while the base Tradesman trim level on the RAM 1500 starts at $32,145.

The top F-150 trim level has a higher starting price than the RAM’s top Limited trim ($67,735 vs $53,915), but the Ford’s lower starting price offers a greater value as it’s over $3,000 less than the RAM.

Better engine choices

The RAM 1500 is now available with two different engine choices: a 305-horsepower V6 or a 395-horsepower HEMI V8. Those two engines are impressive, however, the F-150 comes with more trim levels and engines to choose from. The base engine is a 3.3-liter V6 that pushes out 290 horsepower, but buyers can also select a 325-horsepower, turbo V6, a 375-hp turbo 3.5-liter V6, and a 395-horsepower 5.0-liter V8. Sometimes, more is better.

F-150 Raptor

When comparing the F-150 to the RAM 1500, the Raptor is the “ace” up Ford’s pickup truck sleeve. Sure, it might not be fair to call out this trim level to “one-up” the RAM, but considering the F-150 is practically the “supercar of the pickup trucks,” we just had to.

There’s not much to say other than the Raptor has a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood that produces 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Not to mention that it’s able to go just about anywhere thanks to an upgraded suspension that includes FOX monotube shocks and Trail Control, which is like cruise control for off-roading. Just set the speed and system traverses the jagged trail for you.

It’s good to be the king

We will admit, the RAM 1500’s redesign brought about some distinct changes to the truck’s looks, features, and overall role in the category, but the Ford F-150 is still tough to beat. While the RAM 1500 does prove to be a formidable competitor, the F-150’s reign is most likely going to withstand the test of time, thanks to these five reasons and a whole lot more.
