If you’re in the market for a sedan, you have to consider cargo space. It should be on your checklist right next to the rear-seat legroom and air conditioning. Sedans are for multiple people traveling at once, and with that comes luggage, whether it be a purse or a backpack or actual airplane luggage. When it comes to cargo space, these sedans have you covered. You’ll have to weigh the cargo space against everything else the car has to offer, but at least you can check this off your list.

Volkswagen Arteon is a standard driving experience with a massive trunk

The biggest sedan trunk in 2021 belongs to the Volkswagen Arteon. It uses a turbocharged 2-liter inline-four with 268 horsepower and standard driver assistance features, including forward collision and automatic emergency braking. Drivers can control infotainment with an 8-inch screen, where they can opt to use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Trunk space maxes out at 27.2 cubic feet, which roughly equates to 200 gallons of water. Fold the rear seats down, and the cargo space doubles to 55 cubic feet.

Tesla Model S makes the complete expensive EV package

It’s nice to know that the Tesla Model S and its $95,000 MSRP come with one of the biggest trunks available. Stylish and somewhat comfortable, the Model S has 670 horsepower and goes about 400 miles to a charge, and thanks to its 26 cubic feet of cargo space, it can transport plenty of luggage. If you have to feed several people on Thanksgiving, consider the Model S to transport all your turkeys. The Model S can do it quickly, and all those turkeys won’t make too much of a difference for the 4,800-pound curb weight.

Nissan Leaf: not the first choice for an EV

As electric cars go, the Nissan Leaf shouldn’t be the first choice. Nissan’s Leaf makes up to 214 horsepower and goes about 150-220 miles on a charge, depending on the trim level. However, it takes 8-11 hours to fully recharge on 220V and costs almost as much as a Tesla Model 3 without being nearly as fast. That said, it does have a big trunk at 23.6 cubic feet. It’s enough space to pack for a trip, but you’ll have to make it short, thanks to the Leaf’s limited range. Car and Driver gave it a 6.5 for providing an uninspired driving experience.

Kia stinger is affordable and practical

The Kia Stinger has made great strides in the affordable luxury segment. While its 2022 model is much better, the 2021 model has its own merits. Base models start at $40,000 and come with 255-hp 2-liter inline-fours, while the Stinger GT has 365 from its 3.3-liter V6. Weight isn’t terribly hefty at just over 4,000 pounds, and it can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The Stinger GT is quick and provides exceptional value. Cargo space clocks in at 23.3 cubic feet, which is plenty.

BMW 7 Series: comfortable and impractical

For a car so large, the BMW 7-Series trunk space drops off dramatically from the Kia Stinger. The 7-Series is the epitome of BMW luxury, and you pay for it. At minimum, it gets 335 horsepower from a 3-liter inline-six and 600 horsepower from a 4.4-liter V8, but curb weight gets to almost 4,900 pounds, and mileage rarely exceeds 20 mpg. It starts at $86,800, and that nets you just 18.2 cubic feet of trunk space. It’s a trade-off, as the interior is simply massive for rear and front passengers. Long-distance trips will be comfortable, but don’t expect to take anything bigger than a duffle bag and a few gas cans.

Finding a sedan with ample cargo space isn’t difficult. The real trick is finding one with plenty of cargo space and is also the complete package. The Kia Stinger is the best choice from this list. While it might lack the quality and sophistication of the BMW, the Stinger is affordable, quick, comfortable, and provides plenty of cargo space.
