The 5 Things You Need to Know Before Buying a 2022 Toyota Camry
- Skip the base model Toyota Camry and go for the SE trim
- Make sure to include features like a heated steering wheel for cold climates
- Don’t buy the Camry TRD thinking you’re getting a sports sedan bargain
The Toyota Camry is one of the best-selling cars in America. So, you’d be forgiven for thinking there isn’t really much effort needed to go out and buy one. In part, you’d be right. This Toyota is a sedan like any other. However, there are a few things you need to know, especially given the massive spread of the popular sedan’s trim levels.
There’s a staggering number of 2022 Toyota Camry trims
In total, there are thirteen Toyota Camry trim levels. Of those, there’s a choice of three engines. First, a four-cylinder, then a V6, and finally, a four-cylinder hybrid. We recommend the 300+ hp V6 unless you’re aiming for outright fuel economy. Otherwise, the smaller four-cylinder if you find yourself running out of money while playing with the configurator.
The base model Camry is cheap, but you shouldn’t buy it
And the 2022 Toyota Camry’s smallest motor brings us nicely to the base model. The 2022 Toyota Camry LE. Frankly, skip it. It’s only a $1,540 jump to the SE trim, the best Toyota Camry trim if you ask us. That nets you 99.9% of what the Camry has to offer, and the $26,835 MSRP won’t break your wallet wide open either.
Make sure to get all the best Camry features
In order to keep killing it with the segues, let’s talk about the features, standard and otherwise in the 2022 Toyota Camry. Apple Carplay and Android Auto are standard, but make sure you’re chosen steed has heated seats and the optional heated wheel. In winter driving conditions, it’s a godsend. Finally, we recommend Toyota’s adaptive cruise for their best commuter car.
The Toyota Camry TRD isn’t a driver’s car
Now for a low note. The TRD trim level really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, so don’t go expecting the most popular Toyota sedan to turn into a sports sedan. The V6 is the only engine in this trim level, but it’s severely hampered by the brand’s automatic transmission. Frankly, the transmission is just too frustrating and slow to allow this to be a real sports sedan.
Enjoy Toyota reliability
Finally, know that your choice is a good one. Especially from a reliability standpoint. Toyota works hard to cultivate a reputation for reliability and it’s hard to think of a better, er, vehicle for that than the Camry. Consumer Reports shows a stellar track record for reliability, and even then, the warranty will keep you covered for some time. Hopefully, this knowledge will help you pick the best Camry for you.
