Florida is known for having days filled with sunshine, beautiful beaches, and endless waterways. It also is known for being home to the infamous ‘Florida Man’.

You know, the guy that is always in the news for committing idiotic crimes or attempting unusual and bizarre stunts. His stories usually involve drugs or the police, but we found it can also relate to his vehicle. Here are 5 times the Florida Man was a genius car owner.

Florida Man parks his smart car in the kitchen

Hurricane Dorian ripped through The Bahamas on September 1, 2019. The storm was a Category 5 with sustained winds of 185 mph. Weather forecasters predicted that Florida was in the path of the hurricane, facing potential 115 mph winds. Patrick Eldridge of Jacksonville, Florida, decided he wasn’t going to take any chances with his vehicle.

His wife’s car was parked safely in the garage of his home, but he was concerned about his 2,000 lb. Daimler Smart Fortwo. He came up with the idea to park his car in the kitchen of his house. His wife didn’t think he could do it, but he managed to drive the car right through the double doors.

His plan worked, and the vehicle remained safe from damage. The only thing ruined was dinner. In 2016, Randy Jalil of Port St. Lucie had the same idea. He parked his BMW E30 M3 in his living room to protect it from the winds of Hurricane Matthew. Let’s hear it for the ingenuity of the Florida Man!

Florida Man makes a boat car

Gerry Moore of Pensacola loved his 1986 Chris-Craft 210 Scorpion boat that he towed with his 2003 Ford Expedition SUV. One day, he decided it would be cool to drive his boat, without the need for towing.

So, he ditched the trailer and set out to work in his backyard. Within three days, this Florida Man had created a street-legal boat car. He cut out the bottom of the boat and removed the window and windshield pillars. He then removed the hood and front end of the SUV. Finally, he attached the car and boat with reinforced steel beams. The car boat has working headlights, taillights, and turn signals.

The original Ford drivetrain remains, with a 4.6 liter V8 with overdrive transmission. This head-turning car gets attention wherever it goes.

Sealing electricity for a Tesla

A Florida Man from Lake Worth was on his way to a party when his Tesla Model 3 battery lost its charge. He spotted an external outlet on a stranger’s front lawn and thought it wouldn’t be a problem to charge his electric car there.

In the middle of the night, he pulled out his 120-volt charging cord and ran it through the plush landscaping to plug the car in. He walked the rest of the way to the party, leaving his car unattended and charging in front of the stranger’s house for about 12 hours.

In the morning, when the homeowner awoke and found the car he contacted police. They were able to track down the Florida Man, who returned to pick up his vehicle. Luckily, for him, the homeowner did not press charges. His car was fully charged by that point, so he headed home after a long night of partying, with a full battery.

Florida Man vandalizes 20 cars 

A homeless Florida Man went on a destructive rampage after claiming Trump owed him $1 trillion. He entered a Holiday Inn Resort parking lot in Okaloosa Island and smashed the windows of 20 parked vehicles.

He threw rocks at the glass and used a belt buckle to destroy rear windshields. A Toyota Highlander, Jeep Renegade, and Nissan Versa were among the cars vandalized. Okaloosa Sheriff officers arrived to find the Florida Man passed out on a bench in front of the hotel. When he was arrested he told police the cars belonged to the mafia. Damages were estimated at $30,000. Not cool, Florida Man!

Speeding in a Fred Flintstone car

Don Swartz is a Florida Man with an obvious obsession for the Flintstones. He turned his smart car into Fred Flinstone’s foot-powered vehicle. He removed the car doors, customized the seats with animal skin prints, added wood grain to the exterior, and made an elaborate bamboo rigging. Swartz even dressed in a Fred Flintstone costume.

While driving around the Wesley Chapel area, we think on the way to the quarry, he was stopped by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department for speeding. Deputy Echevarri thought it would be fun to play along and sent out an elaborate Facebook post about the incident. It was all in good fun. To this Florida Man, we say Yabba Dabba Doo!
