The Toyota Tundra underwent a complete redesign for 2022 and with it came a new look, new engines, and some interesting new features. I had a chance to drive the all-new Tundra for a week and came away impressed with everything it had to offer. Here are five unique features I found.

1. The massive 14-inch infotainment screen in the 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited is crisp and clear

My test truck for the week was a 2022 Toyota Tundra Limited, so it had the optional 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system as opposed to the standard 8-inch one. The screen is massive and it’s the first thing that you definitely notice when climbing into the cab of this truck. I have to hand it Toyota, though, as the screen is super clear and responsive to every touch.

It’s easy to navigate as well since there are only six different functions to toggle between – navigation, radio, Apple Carplay, phone, vehicle, and system settings. On top of that, the top of the screen sits low enough that it doesn’t block your line of sight out of the windshield. Needless to say, I recommend opting for the higher trims just to get the bigger infotainment screen.

2. Under the hood is a twin-turbo V6 powertrain

Are you sad that the Toyota Tundra no longer has a 5.7-liter V8? I’m not, especially after feeling the power of the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that Toyota put in its place. The new engine’s powerband comes online quickly and there’s no sign of turbo lag throughout the RPM range. However, I will note that there is a bit of a laggy feeling when accelerating from a stop and the exhaust sound is intoxicating. In fact, I think it sounds better than the outgoing V8.

3. The rear power window is class-exclusive

The 2022 Tundra comes with a power sliding rear window just like the 4Runner has had for many years. To be honest, I’m not completely sure what the point of it is, but I still think it’s really unique. Actually, it’s class-exclusive.

4. There’s a semi-hidden tailgate release bump switch

Another little trick that comes on the Tundra Limited (and above) is a tailgate release bump switch. Basically, it’s a little black button that’s hidden near the driver’s side taillight and it comes in handy when your hands are full and need to open the tailgate. There’s a normal handle on the tailgate as well, but it’s such a nifty feature that I got used to pressing the bump switch every time opened the tailgate. If you buy this truck, you probably will too.

5. There are a ton of different camera angles

Remember that massive 14-inch touchscreen I was raving about? Well, it comes in handy when you throw the truck in reverse. The backup camera view takes up the whole screen and there are even five other views that you toggle through. Technically, you’re supposed to use them when you go off-roading, but they work really well when you have to park this gargantuan truck in a tight spot as well. There’s even a camera view into the truck bed, which is really cool.

These five features aren’t the only ones that make the 2022 Toyota Tundra cool. Trust me, there is plenty to love about it once you figure out everything it has to offer. But if you get the Limited trim, the aforementioned features are sure to win you over.
