Let’s say you have a neighbor or friend who won’t stop bragging about their late model Ford Mustang GT. That can be annoying, and frankly, very few cars offer GT performance figures at the Mustang’s price point. Well, you’re still in luck; the used car market has a few serious options for you to embarrass your pony car foe. Here are five used cars that are faster than a newer V8-powered Ford Mustang GT, like the Chevrolet C7 Corvette and the C5 Corvette Z06.

  • Chevrolet C7 Corvette
  • Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
  • BMW M5
  • Chevrolet C5 Corvette Z06
  • Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG

How much HP does a C7 Corvette have?

The Chevrolet Corvette from the C7 generation is an absolute performance bargain. With 455 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds, the Z51 package-equipped C7 can outrun a newer Ford Mustang GT. Furthermore, the Corvette features a removable roof panel, cylinder-shutdown for added fuel economy, and enough trunk space for golf clubs. Still, buying a used C7 will likely cost around $50,000, making it a pricey performance option.

Is a Dodge Hellcat faster than a Mustang?

A used 2015 or 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is faster than a newer Ford Mustang GT. According to MotorTrend, the 2015 Challenger Hellcat could sprint to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds on its way to a sub-12 second quarter mile. Speed like that is courtesy of a supercharged 6.2L V8 engine producing 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Of course, the newer Mustang’s smaller horsepower and torque ratings might better suit you for daily driving.

Is the BMW M5 fast?

The BMW M5 is so fast that it challenges perceptions of how swift four-door sedans can move. However, they’re typically prohibitively expensive; a new 2023 BMW M5 starts at $108,895. Still, the M5 makes this list because earlier models are still wicked fast and depreciated to much more affordable ranges. For instance, you can snag a 2013 M5 for around $30,000.

Is a Chevrolet C5 Corvette Z06 faster than a Mustang GT?

Although a C6 Z06 is faster, the C5-generation Corvette Z06 is fast enough to outsprint a Mustang GT. Chevrolet produced a 405-horsepower Z06 from 2002 to 2004, and it’s still a significant performance bargain. According to Autotrader, you can buy this missile for around $27,000, depending on mileage. Despite its age, a solid manual operator can motivate a C5 Z06 to 60 mph in just 4.0 seconds.

How fast is an E55 AMG?

Like the deceptively fast BMW M5, a preowned Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is a lunatic in sensible attire. Car and Driver tested a 2005 E55 AMG Wagon model that hit 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds. Better yet, savvy shoppers can find one for less than $20,000.

Which car should you buy?

The Ford Mustang GT is a performance bargain, although these used cars can outperform it. Still, Ford managed to coax a 3.9-second run to 60 mph out of a newer S550 Mustang GT with a Performance Package. That makes the GT fiendishly fast but still not quick enough to outrun a C7 Corvette or Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Those two cars are serious performers in the used car market, if not exceedingly affordable.
