In the world of luxury EVs, the Jaguar I-Pace is one of the best options for customers to buy, but it has many competitors. One of those competitors is the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge, which offers SUV shoppers many features for the price tag. That said, the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace might be a better option, and here’s a look at six reasons folks should consider the I-Pace over the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge.

1. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace has more range

EV owners want more range from their cars, and the Jaguar I-Pace has more range than the Volvo C40 Recharge does, according to Edmunds. The Jaguar can go 234 miles on a single charge, while the C40 Recharge can only go 226 miles. Currently, neither luxury automaker offers a longer range option for their electric SUVs, so the I-Pace beats the C40 Recharge in terms of range.

2. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace also has a bigger battery

The main reason the Jaguar I-Pace has more range than the Volvo is their battery packs. Jaguar gave the I-Pace a 90-kWh battery, while Volvo gave the C40 Recharge a 78-kWh battery. That’s a 12-kWh difference. Usually, a bigger battery will mean a heavier EV, but that’s not the case with the I-Pace.

3. The Jaguar is lighter overall than the Volvo

The Jaguar I-Pace is a compact crossover SUV, while the Volvo C40 Recharge is a subcompact crossover SUV. As such, the Jaguar is a longer and wider car, according to Edmunds. Despite that size difference and the battery pack difference, the I-Pace has a curb weight of 4,784 pounds. That is slightly lighter than the C40 Recharge, which comes in at 4,817 pounds.

4. The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace also has more maximum cargo capacity

One of the main benefits of the size difference between the two cars is how much space is inside them. Both can seat five people, and without folding any seats down, the Jaguar I-Pace has 23.2 cu. ft. of cargo capacity. The Volvo C40 Recharge, meanwhile, only gets 14.5 cu. ft. of cargo capacity. That’s a difference of 8.7 cu. ft. 

With the seats folded down, the Jaguar tops out at a max cargo capacity of 55.1 cu. ft. The Volvo tops out at 48.7 cu. ft. of max cargo capacity. That’s a difference of 6.4 cu. ft. 

5. The Jaguar’s motors get more torque than the Volvo does

In addition to having more room, the Jaguar I-Pace’s dual motors get much more torque than the Volvo’s dual motors. The I-Pace gets 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque, while the Volvo C40 Recharge gets 402 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque. This means the Volvo has an 8-hp advantage, but the Jaguar has a 26 lb-ft of torque advantage. 

Torque matters a lot for EV acceleration, so the I-Pace has a much faster 0 to 60 mph time than the C40 Recharge. The Jaguar can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, while it’ll take the C40 Recharge 4.7 seconds. 

6. Jaguar gave the 2022 I-Pace a more generous warranty

In terms of warranties, Jaguar owners got the better deal. The Jaguar I-Pace has a five-year/60,000-mile basic and drivetrain warranty. Meanwhile, the Volvo C40 Recharge has a four-year/50,000-mile basic and drivetrain warranty. 

The rust and roadside warranties are mixed bags, though. Jaguar has a six-year/unlimited rust warranty, but Volvo has a 12-year/unlimited rust warranty. Jaguar has a five-year/60,000-mile roadside warranty, while Volvo has a four-year/unlimited roadside warranty.
