It’s a crazy time we’re living in, and the price for used cars isn’t helping things. In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, supply chain disruptions and a chip shortage have resulted in fewer cars, vans, and trucks being made. That has driven up the cost of all vehicles, new and used. In fact, some used vehicles are even more expensive than new ones. Yet there are still six affordable used SUV models that you can buy that won’t cost you much more than they would at any other time. 

A used Volvo XC90 is the most affordable SUV model

Even though the cost of used SUVs keeps increasing, the price of a used Volvo XC90 is relatively unchanged. While June of 2021 saw the average price of used cars go up by 32.7%, according to iSeeCars, the price for a used Volvo XC90 has only increased by 12.6% to about $37,099. 

The price of a used Audi SQ5 has increased a small amount

The Audi SQ5 is a subcompact SUV which has increased in cost by only 14.4% since June of 2020. While a brand new 2022 Audi SQ5 would cost you $53,900, a used Audi SQ5 will only set you back $40,028. 

The used Subaru Crosstrek is another small SUV with a small increase

The Subaru Crosstrek is such a popular subcompact SUV, you might expect its price to have skyrocketed. Not so. The average cost of a used Subaru Crosstrek is $21,570, a 15.2% increase from 2020. 

The used Audi Q7 is the second Audi to maintain a reasonable price increase

At roughly half the rate of increase from the average used SUV, the average price for a used Audi Q7 is $37,616. At 16.8% more than June of 2020, the Audi Q7 is still a good deal. 

A used Mazda CX-3 won’t wreck your budget 

A used Mazda CX-3 will only cost you $17,057. This is an increase of 18%, one of the highest rates on this list, but also one of the cheapest used SUVs you can buy at a modest increase. If budget is a primary concern while you’re car shopping, the Mazda CX-3 is a good deal. 

The Mitsubishi Outlander is yet another subcompact SUV on this list

It’s no surprise that there are so many subcompact SUVs on this list, considering that the class as a whole has seen smaller increases than other vehicle types. If you’re in the market for a used Mitsubishi Outlander, it will set you back $16,618, making it the cheapest SUV on this list. Its price increase is also the highest, at 18.2%, but it’s still a cheap SUV. 

It may not be a great time to buy a used SUV, but it doesn’t have to be terrible, either. If you really want a used SUV right now, or you simply can’t wait to buy one, these six affordable used SUV models are some of the best options you may have.
