The Toyota Land Cruiser remains a highly regarded full-size SUV despite being discontinued after the 2021 model year. Thanks to its rugged build and off-roading chops, this beast has become a collectible, selling for well over $80,000. For shoppers wanting a truck-based SUV without an outrageous price tag, here are six Toyota Land Cruiser alternatives for under $60,000.

Overview of the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser

The 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser marks the end of an era for this premium large SUV. This model packs a 5.7-liter V8 engine producing 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It can tow up to 8,100 pounds, which isn’t class-leading but still decent. Fuel economy isn’t great — 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. And the maximum cargo capacity is a modest 81.7 cubic feet.

The retail price of a new base model started at $87,030, but J.D. Power says people are paying $79,276 to $95,203 for used 2021 models.

Because you can no longer get a brand-new one, here are six Toyota Land Cruiser alternatives under $60,000 to consider:

1. 2023 Chevy Tahoe

One of the cheapest full-size SUVs on this list comes in at $54,200 to start. It has three engine options. The 5.3-liter V8 produces 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque, enabling the 2023 Chevy Tahoe to get about 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Its 6.2-liter V8 version generates 420 hp and 460 lb-ft while getting 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. And the 3.0-liter turbodiesel gets 21/28 mpg. All engines mate with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to cargo space, the Tahoe doesn’t disappoint, with a maximum of 123 cubic feet. Towing capacity is comparable to the 2021 Land Cruiser at 8,200 pounds.

2. 2023 Ford Expedition

Another Toyota Land Cruiser alternative is the 2023 Ford Expedition, starting at $55,725. This SUV offers only one engine option, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This setup produces 380 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque for the lower trims. As for fuel economy, expect 16/22 mpg city/highway.

In addition, this large SUV can tow up to 9,300 pounds. However, the longer Max model can handle only 9,000. Maximum cargo space is a solid 104.6 cubic feet. But the Expedition Max provides 121.5 cubic feet.

3. 2023 GMC Yukon

The 2023 GMC Yukon starts at $57,400 and provides three engine options. First, there’s a 5.3-liter V8, producing 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and getting 16/20 mpg city/highway. Higher trim levels get a 6.2-liter V8 harnessing 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Last, there’s a 3.0-liter inline-six turbodiesel generating 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the most fuel-efficient, with EPA ratings of 21/27 mpg city/highway. All engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to towing, the 2023 Yukon can haul up to 8,400 pounds. As for cargo capacity, this SUV has a maximum of 122 cubic feet. For more space, the extended XL model provides 145 cubic feet.

4. 2023 Lexus GX

The 2023 Lexus GX has only one engine option. Its 4.6-liter V8, producing 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque, pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission. Getting 15/19 mpg city/highway, its fuel economy ratings are comparable to the other Toyota Land Cruiser alternatives on this list.

But it can’t tow as much, rated at 6,500 pounds. The GX isn’t big on cargo space either, with 64.7 cubic feet total.

As for price, the base model starts at $59,275. It’s higher than most of the other Toyota Land Cruiser alternatives on this list because it’s a luxury SUV.

5. 2023 Nissan Armada

The cheapest SUV on this list is the 2023 Nissan Armada, starting at $50,700. It packs a 5.6-liter V8 engine producing 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. That pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission.

It gets slightly better EPA fuel economy ratings than the Land Cruiser, with 14/19 mpg city/highway. Towing capacity isn’t bad at 8,500 pounds. Cargo space is average, with a maximum of 86.2 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded flat.

6. 2023 Toyota Sequoia

The last Land Cruiser alternative under $60,000 is the 2023 Sequoia, the brand’s other three-row full-size SUV. This model boasts a hybrid setup, with a 3.4-liter V6 engine paired with an electric motor generating 437 hp and 483 lb-ft of torque. It pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.

Thanks to its hybrid powertrain, the 2023 Sequoia gets 21 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Towing capacity is a decent 9,020 pounds. And maximum cargo space doesn’t impress at 89 cubic feet. This model also has the highest base price on the list, starting at $59,865.
