1. Chevy Camaro

As Car and Driver wrote, the Chevrolet Camaro is still one of the best sports cars available today. A lot has changed since the Camaro’s classic days, but the modern Camaro can still be a pleasurable and affordable car to drive. This Chevy sports car starts at about $26,000. It starts with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that gets 275 hp. 

That said, Chevy offers two other trim options below $30,000. For example, the 2LT trim starts at just under $29,000. This trim mainly upgrades the Camaro’s comfort features and gives the car leather upholstery and heated front seats.

2. Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is another legendary performance model that folks can buy for under $30,000. However, unlike the Camaro, only the starting trim comes under $30,000, costing about $29,000. The Mustang’s starting engine is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which gets about 310 hp.

This standard engine is pretty capable, but it’s also quite fuel-efficient for a sports car. It allows the Mustang to get 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on highways, for 25 mpg combined.

3. Mazda MX-5 Miata

The Mazda MX-5 Miata has always been known as one of the most affordable sports cars on the market, and that’s still true today. In fact, as Car and Driver wrote, “it’s the only affordable sports car with a convertible top.” The standard Miata starts at just under $29,000, and all of its trim options are in the $30,000 range. 

The MX-5 Miata only has one engine option, and it’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that gets 181 hp. This engine doesn’t make the Miata the fastest in its class, but it provides enough power to allow drivers to have a lot of fun in their little Mazda.

4. Toyota GR86

Toyota is more well-known for its practical models, but the GR86 is a sports car that Toyota made for the fans. It starts at just under $29,000, and there’s a single engine option available. This Toyota sports car comes with a 2.4-liter flat-four engine with 224 hp. It comes with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, and that helps make it fun to drive for enthusiasts.

5. Subaru BRZ

As Car and Driver wrote, Toyota worked with Subaru to develop the GR86 and the BRZ, so the two sports cars have a lot in common. In fact, the 2.4-liter flat-four in the GR86 was provided by Subaru, so it’s no surprise that the BRZ has the exact same engine. The BRZ also starts at just under $29,000, and it’s a fun model to drive that handles well. Just like the GR86, the BRZ comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display.

6. Subaru WRX

The Subaru WRX is the most expensive sports car on this list, costing just under $30,000. Subaru gave the WRX only one engine, a 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four that gets 271 hp. Overall, it’s a fun sports car to drive, but it only starts with a 7-inch touchscreen display.
