Many drivers are switching from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric in an effort to save the planet. Others are simply eager to avoid pricey gas pumps. The EV segment is becoming more crowded by the moment, or so it seems. However, here is a list of the six most reliable electric cars of 2023.

1. Tesla Model S 

Teslas are probably the most well-known EVs. The Tesla Model S tends to get the best coverage and is currently iSeeCars‘ top reliable EV.

What really makes the Model S one of the most reliable electric cars and stand out is the 396 to 405 miles of range. The Lucid Air has blown this out of the water, but this is still a high mileage range for an EV.

iSeeCars gave the Tesla Model S a reliability score of 9.4 out of 10, and a value retention of 8.3 out of 10. However, it’s not for the average consumer as the new car price is $104,990 to $135,990. The used car price is $49,998 to $131,561. 

2. Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Hyundai is beginning to explore the EV segment with the Ioniq Electric, one of the most reliable electric cars for 2023. It fails to get positive critic attention, however, due to the fact that it doesn’t have much range. It gets around 170 miles, which isn’t all that impressive when other automakers are developing EVs that can go over 200 miles with ease. 

The Ioniq Electric manages to stand out due to the price. If you buy one new, it costs $33,245 to $38,815. Used vehicles range from $21,536 to $37,969. For drivers who don’t have to travel far, the Hyundai Ioniq Electric is a solid choice. iSeeCars even gives it a reliability score of 7.9 out of 10.

3. Nissan LEAF

The Nissan LEAF is very popular due to its cheap price. It costs only $28,040 to $36,040. Used LEAF vehicles are even cheaper with a price tag of $17,998 to $38,949. 

The LEAF has a range of 150 to 226 miles depending on the trim you opt for. The reliability score from iSeeCars is 7.6 out of 10, and it has a safety score of 10 out of 10.

4. Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 also made it onto this list, coming in fourth place. It has a score of 8.7 out of 10 from iSeeCars. Other scores include a value retention of 9.0 out of 10 and safety received 10 out of 10. It’s currently getting a lot of praise for the 2023 model, thanks to the wide range of stunning colors.

The Model 3 is far more affordable than the Model S with a price range of $46,990 to $62,990 for new models and $39,089 to $65,100 for used ones. The range is also stellar as it can go 272 to 334 miles. 

5. BMW i3 (electric)

The BMW i3 doesn’t have a great overall score from iSeeCars. In fact, it’s a mere 6.5 out of 10. It has a decent enough reliability score, however, and earned 7.2 out of 10. The value retention is what drug it down, as it was awarded only 5.8 out of 10.

The i3 Electric only costs $44,450 to $47,650 when purchased brand new. The used price range is $21,872 to $39,972.

The EV range is lackluster, as the i3 only gets 153 miles. This is only three more miles than the Nissan LEAF, even though it costs almost twice as much. 

6. Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevrolet Bolt EV earned a higher overall score than the BMW i3 Electric, with a score of 8.0 out of 10. It comes in sixth place in terms of reliability thanks to a score of 7.1 out of 10, however. The safety score is perfect, with 10 out of 10.

The price and the EV range are what really make the Chevrolet Bolt EV an attractive choice for many consumers. New Bolt EVs cost anywhere from $25,600 to $28,800. Use car prices range from $21,989 to $39,764. It also gets an impressive 259 miles, making it the most affordable EV for the range on this list.
