The 2022 Dodge Durango has a powerful engine, though it doesn’t have an available Hellcat the way it once did. These include a 3.4-liter V6 that makes 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7-liter V8 makes 360 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. And the most powerful engine, the 6.4-liter V8, makes 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. 

2. The Dodge Durango has plenty of passenger space

If you get a 2022 Dodge Durango with three rows, you’ll be able to hold up to seven passengers. Opt for second-row captain’s chairs and that gets reduced to six.

3. The Durango also has lots of cargo space

The 2022 Dodge Durango also has a respectable amount of cargo space. U.S. News says it can hold up to 17.2 cubic feet in the back. It also has room for 43.3 cubic feet of storage if you fold down the third row and 85.1 cubic feet with all back rows folded.

4. You can tow a lot in the Durango

Thanks to the Durango’s powerful engine, you can tow a lot with it. Two trim levels are especially good for towing something large. Both the 2022 Dodge Durango RT 392 and the 2022 Dodge Durango R/T with the Tow N Go package can tow up to 8,700 pounds.

1. One of the 2022 Dodge Durango’s biggest problems are its safety ratings

The 2022 Dodge Durango was tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and it doesn’t hold any safety awards. The IIHS gives out a Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ award and the Durango falls short of both of these. It has a marginal small overlap test on the driver side, though the other categories that have been rated by the IIHS have good scores. Its safety systems haven’t been rated yet.

Consumer Reports predicts a vehicle’s reliability by using its own knowledge of cars as well as subscriber surveys. It doesn’t predict that the Durango’s reliability is going to be all that great. It’s basing this partly on Dodge’s brand as well as how previous Durangos have held up.

The 2022 Dodge Durango is the kind of SUV that is so unique, there is very little to compare it to. If you’re in the market for a new three-row SUV and you prioritize a powerful engine and high towing capability, you just might love the new Durango.
