Ford Bronco buyers across the U.S. have waited quite a long time to get their hands on this brand-new off-roading SUV. However, as this iconic Ford goes into production, we now get a glimpse into what owners truly want. A new report indicates that around 60 percent of buyers so far have optioned the most powerful engine available.

According to Motor1, over 125,000 buyers have already placed orders for this upcoming SUV. Thanks to Jiyan Cadiz, Ford Icon communications manager, we also know that buyers aren’t skimping on options either. In fact, the best-selling trim levels are also the most expensive ones.

Ford Bronco buyers have spoken, they want power

It seems Ford Bronco buyers are going all out with their latest SUV purchase. This all starts with their powertrain choice. As a quick refresher, let’s go over this model’s available engines. The base option is a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 270 hp and 310 lb-ft. Power goes to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.

The largest option available is a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 engine. This Ford Bronco powertrain puts out 310 hp and 400 lb-ft. Like with the base powertrain, power goes to all four wheels. The main difference is that you get a 10-speed automatic transmission. While the power difference between these engines isn’t massive, the real gain comes from the torque figure.

Regardless, Motor1 reports that at least 60 percent of buyers selected the larger powertrain despite its additional cost.

Buyers also want higher trim levels

Aside from ordering the most powerful engine option available, Motor1 reports that Ford Bronco buyers also want higher trim levels. 70 percent of buyers so far have opted for higher 2-door and 4-door trim levels. This off-roading SUV has a base price of $28,500, making it relatively affordable. However, higher trim levels such as the Badlands and Wildtrak kick up that price to $42,095 and $46,980, respectively.

Since a decent amount of hype surrounds the Ford Bronco, it won’t surprise you to learn that Ford has received around 190,000 reservations in total. Of this group of reservations, Motor1 reports that around 66 percent have resulted in actual sales. Keep in mind; this is all for a vehicle none of these customers have test-driven.

Additionally, more of these can turn into sales as buyers option their respective SUVs and finish the ordering process.

When will the Bronco arrive at dealerships?

As of writing, Ford Bronco production is well underway. As a result, it won’t be long until we see plenty of these SUVs out at dealerships and on the road. However, if the Bronco Sport is anything to go by, expect limited inventory and massive markups for at least the first few months.

If you don’t have an order for this SUV and want to rely on local inventory, you’re better off waiting. In most cases, once the hype dies down a bit, you should be able to score one of these SUVs at the MSRP.
