7 EV Pickup Alternatives to the GMC Hummer Truck
The GMC Hummer EV SUT is an electric pickup truck that is extreme in every way. It has the military-inspired styling that the Hummer name is famous for, innovative features like CrabWalk, up to 1,000 horsepower, and available Super Cruise hands-free driving.
Even though it came out in early 2022, you can’t order a GMC Hummer EV Pickup as of this writing because of production delays. If you’re on the waiting list and getting impatient, here are seven other electric pickup trucks to consider.
1. Chevy Silverado EV
The Chevrolet Silverado EV is an upcoming electric pickup truck with some mechanical similarities to the Hummer EV. Both trucks ride on GM’s Ultium EV platform. GM estimates a maximum range of up to 400 miles, 754 horsepower, and 10,000 pounds of towing capacity. Unfortunately, another thing it has in common with the Hummer is that it’s currently unavailable to order. We expect it to be available in early 2024.
2. Ford F-150 Lightning
The Ford F-150 Lightning is an electric pickup truck you can actually buy! It’s arguably the best in its small segment of all-electric trucks. It successfully electrifies everything we love about the F-150 and has unique features like the Mega Power Frunk. Pricing starts at $49,995, and it gets up to 320 miles of range.
3. GMC Sierra EV
As is the case with their gas-powered counterparts, the GMC Sierra EV will be the mechanical twin of the Chevy Silverado EV. The Sierra will have a more luxurious look and feel, and of course, a premium Denali trim will be available. GMC says it will be available in early 2024.
4. Lordstown Endurance
The Lordstown Endurance is something of a failed experiment. It was a collaboration between Ohio-based startup Lordstown Motors and Taiwanese tech giant Foxconn. Long story short, the deal with Foxconn fell through, and the Endurance electric pickup has already been discontinued after a short production run. However, if you can find one second-hand, it’s an exciting quad-motor electric truck with a claimed peak torque rating of 4,971 lb-ft.
5. Ram 1500 REV
The Ram 1500 REV is the Ram brand’s first shot at an EV. It takes an approach similar to the Ford F-150 Lightning in that it doesn’t look too different from its gas-powered counterpart; it just happens to be electric. Ram claims it will have a maximum range of up to 500 miles and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds when it comes out in late 2024.
6. Rivian R1T
Other than the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T is the only other truck on this list that you can actually buy today. The R1T is a luxurious and adventurous electric pickup with up to 410 miles of range and a lightning-quick 0-60 mph time of just 3.0 seconds with the quad-motor powertrain. It starts at $73,000 with the dual-motor powertrain and $87,000 with the quad-motor setup.
7. Tesla Cybertruck
Ah, the Tesla Cybertruck. It was first unveiled by Elon Musk way back in 2019, and it still isn’t out yet in late 2023. It is hard to predict when it will come out or what the real-life production model will be like, but we think it will stick close to the radical exoskeleton design we’re all hoping for. Tesla promises “better utility than a truck with more performance than a sports car.”
