If you’re in the market for a new car, you ay be looking at pre-owned SUVs. These can come with lower price tags (though with the current chip shortage, used cars may be more expensive than new). There’s also generally more known about a particular model and how well it will hold up when it’s a year or two, as opposed to brand new. In the case of these seven used luxury SUVs, time has not done them any favors. Each of these used SUVs has abysmal reliability ratings, and you may want to avoid buying them.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair is one of the used luxury SUVs with the worst reliability ratings

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair was new in 2020, and now it’s a used luxury SUV. According to Consumer Reports, it shares a platform with the 2020 Ford Escape. This isn’t helping the Lincoln Corsair at all; it’s reliability rating is a 1/5. Some of the biggest trouble spots in the 2020 Lincoln Corsair include the body integrity and power equipment, each of which get a 1/5. In-car electronics get a 4/5. It’s worth noting that everything else in the 2020 Lincoln Corsair’s reliability gets a perfect 5/5.

The 2019 Volvo XC90 gets a terrible reliability rating

The 2019 Volvo XC90’s reliability rating is a poor 1/5. The most concerning trouble areas in the 2019 Volvo XC90 are the brakes, suspension, body integrity, and power equipment. Each of these gets a 1/5. The drive system, body hardware, and in-car electronics each get a 2/5. Both the exhaust and the fuel system get a 3/5. As you can see, the 2019 Volvo XC90 is a used luxury SUV worth skipping.

The 2014 Infiniti QX60 may cost you in repairs

If you buy the 2014 Infiniti QX60, you may want to have a cash reserve for repairs. That’s because some pretty key areas in this used luxury SUV get poor reliability ratings. These include the engine major and engine cooling, transmission major and minor, the drive system, and body integrity. Each of these gets a 1/5. Additionally, the exhaust gets a 2/5 and the climate system, suspension, and brakes each get a 3/5. That’s a whole lot of repairs to have to make on a used luxury SUV.

The 2019 Tesla Model X is an electric used luxury SUV with a lot of problems

The 2019 Tesla Model X may save you on gas, but what you don’t spend on fuel you may spend on mechanic bills. The 2019 Tesla Model X has a host of reliability issues, causing Consumer Reports to give the 2019 Model X a 1/5 for reliability. Some of the worst offenders in the Model X are the dive system, climate system, suspension, paint/trim, body integrity, and body hardware. Each of these gets a 1/5. The power equipment gets just a 2/5.

The 2018 Buick Enclave is one of the least reliable used luxury SUVs

Both the 2017 and 2019 Buick Enclaves get a 4/5 for their reliability, but the 2018 Buick Enclave only has a 1/5. What gives? Well, for one thing, the transmission minor gets a 1/5. So does the climate system and the body integrity. The engine minor, drive system, body hardware, and brakes each get a 2/5. Luckily, Buick seemed to turn things around by the next year’s model.

If you’re looking for a used luxury SUV, you might want to avoid these model years. That’s not to say the entire model is a poor choice, but these specific years have problems that could end up being costly, or putting you in a situation where you’re stranded. With any used car that you’re purchasing, make sure you do your due diligence. Check safety ratings, reliability ratings, and get your vehicle’s history report. Doing these things should help you find a used SUV that suits your needs, and won’t cost you thousands of dollars in unexpected repairs.
