8 Fast Cars That Are More Reliable Than a Toyota Prius
In addition to its high fuel economy, the Toyota Prius hybrid is a very reliable car. Prius models have a much-deserved reputation for lasting many miles and years. Fast-driving cars, especially sports cars, conversely, often have more maintenance and repair issues due to the larger and more complex engines. However, surprisingly, there are eight fast cars that are more reliable than a Toyota Prius.
What fast cars are more reliable than a Toyota Prius?
The Prius can more than hold its own for efficiency and reliability. However, it’s one of the slowest cars available. If you want to enjoy a fast car that’s even more reliable than a Prius, then take a look at this list of eight cars, as detailed by Hot Cars:
- Subaru BRZ
- Mazda3 Turbo
- Honda S2000
- Mazda MX-5 Miata
- Ford Mustang
- Honda Civic Si
- Lexus ES
- Toyota Camry V6
Subaru BRZ is a fast car that’s more reliable than a Toyota Prius
The Subaru BRZ takes the top spot on Hot Car’s list of fast cars that are more reliable than a Toyota Prius. It has many of the same mechanical components as the Toyota GR86, which is another reasonably priced sports car. The BRZ features a 2.0-liter boxer-4 engine, which generates 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. Its 0-60 mph acceleration time is as low as 5.9 seconds. Buyers of the BRZ have a choice of either a standard six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
The BRZ is a more premium car compared to the GR86. Many of the optional features in the GR86 are standard in the BRZ. Overall, the BRZ is a fun car that delivers impressive speed and acceleration when you desire high-level automotive excitement but with reliability that bests the Prius.
Mazda3 Turbo is a very reliable fast car
The Mazda3 Turbo takes the second spot on the list of fast cars that are more reliable than a Toyota Prius. Along with being very safe cars, modern Mazda cars like the Mazda3 earned a reputation for their reliability. Much of this is due to the reliability of Mazda’s SkyActiv engines.
In the past, the Mazda3 wasn’t known as a performance car. However, this all changed with the introduction of the Mazda3 Turbo. The Mazda3 Turbo features a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds. Also, the Mazda3 Turbo has a standard six-speed automatic transmission and a traction-enhancing all-wheel drive system.
Honda S2000: Fast and reliable sports car
The Honda S2000 takes the third spot on the list of fast cars that are more reliable than a Toyota Prius. If you want to buy a Honda S2000, your only choice is to buy used, though, for it was discontinued in 2009. As described by Hot Cars, Honda designed the S2000 as a “faster alternative to the Mazda MX-5 and Toyota MR-2.”
The most recent iteration of the S2000 has a “high-revving” 2.2-liter inline-four-cylinder engine. It doles out 237 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 6.1 seconds. The sports car is only available with a six-speed manual transmission. Due to its increasing rarity, the S2000 is a “sought-after sports car.”
You don’t necessarily have to buy a slow-moving car like the Toyota Prius (121 hp/105 lb-ft of torque; 0-60 mph time: 9.6 seconds) to enjoy excellent reliability. Whether it’s the Subaru BRZ, Mazda3 Turbo, or Honda S2000, you can enjoy excellent performance but with reliability that’s better than a Prius.
