8 Luxury EV Alternatives to the GMC Hummer SUV
The GMC Hummer EV SUV is in a class of its own. It’s far from being the only electric luxury SUV on the market, but it’s not quite like anything else in its class. It has the presence of previous Hummer models with military-inspired styling, and it’s a capable off-roader when equipped with the Extreme Off-Road Package.
As of this writing, the Hummer EV SUV is unavailable to order. If you can’t wait for the Hummer, here are eight large luxury EV alternatives to consider.
1. Audi Q8 e-tron
The Audi Q8 e-tron is a more normal luxury SUV than the Hummer EV SUV. It electrifies everything we love about Audi SUVs: a luxurious interior, the latest tech features, and an engaging driving experience. Although much smaller, it’s a bargain compared to the Hummer, with a starting price of $74,400, and it’s also available with a stylish Sportback body.
2. BMW iX
The BMW iX is another electric SUV from an established luxury brand. This high-tech EV is capable of up to 311 miles of range, and the sporty M60 model has a whopping 610 horsepower and flies from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Pricing starts at $87,100.
3. Cadillac Escalade IQ
The upcoming Cadillac Escalade IQ will be mechanically similar to the GMC Hummer EV SUV. Riding on GM’s Ultium platform, it will be a three-row luxury SUV with an estimated 450-mile range, a 55-inch display spanning the dash, and an available Executive Second Row with first-class appointments. While the Hummer is a bit more off-road focused, the Escalade IQ is likely to have the edge in terms of luxury features. Cadillac says it will be available in late 2024 and start at around $130,000.
4. Cadillac Lyriq
The Cadillac Lyriq is arguably the best value in electric luxury SUVs. Unlike the Hummer EV and Escalade IQ, the Lyriq is available now and starts at only $58,590. It’s smaller and less capable than the Hummer, but it’s a practical and luxurious EV with available Super Cruise hands-free driving and more than 300 miles of range.
5. Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV
We’re impressed with the Mercedes-Benz EQ line of EVs, especially its flagship EQS SUV. This high-tech luxury SUV has all the panache that the Mercedes brand promises and futuristic features like the Hyperscreen. It’s also available with three-row seating, unlike the Hummer. Pricing starts at $104,400.
6. Rivian R1S
The Rivian R1S might be the closest rival to the GMC Hummer EV SUV. It’s a big electric SUV with a premium interior and serious off-road chops. One of the most significant differences is that the Rivian has three-row seating. The R1S offers incredible performance with the quad-motor powertrain, giving it a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds. Pricing starts at $78,000, but the quad-motor powertrain begins at $92,000.
7. Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X is one of the oldest SUVs in its class. It has unique characteristics like its Falcon Wing rear doors and an available yoke steering wheel. The Model X also has available three-row seating and delivers unbelievable performance from the Plaid model, hitting 0-60 mph in only 2.5 seconds. It starts at just under $80k for the base model and a little under $90k for the Plaid trim.
8. Volvo EX90
The upcoming Volvo EX90 promises to be a safe and practical EV with three-row seating and the latest tech features. Volvo claims an electric range of up to 300 miles, up to 496 horsepower, and that it will be “well-equipped under $80,000.” It should be out in late 2024.
