820,000 General Motors Trucks Face a Dangerous Tailgate Recall
Today’s recall involves tons of big trucks. General Motors is issuing a massive recall for the Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 3500, and the GMC Sierra 2500, and 3500HD models because they may have a faulty tailgate latch.

If you have a massive General Motors truck, you might need to take it in for service. GM is recalling 2020 – 2024 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500, and 3500 HD models.
Over 820,000 big trucks are at risk. Roughly 570,000 models are at risk in the United States and other 250,000 models are affected in Canada.
This is General Motors’ largest recall and America’s largest recall filed so far in 2024. This may give Ford a breath of fresh air as it had the most recalls in 2023, but it’s still early in the years.
Anyways, the Chevrolet Silverado and Sierra HD models have tailgates that could randomly unlatch and open. As a result, cargo and gear could fall out the back of the trucks, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
The problem occurs while trucks are parked. If water leaks into the tailgate area where the electronic gate-release switch is located then it may unlatch.
General Motors advises GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado HD truck owners to make sure the tailgate is latched before driving. General Motors will begin notifying owners at risk via mail on March 18.

There isn’t a fix for this tailgate problem at the moment, but you will need to visit a GMC dealership for repairs. The electronic tailgate switch will be disabled until GM provides a permanent fix.
General Motors didn’t mention if it is aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem. But it started an investigation after receiving 136 complaints about the tailgates unexpectedly opening in November.
