Nearing the end of winter, when springtime is near, the prospects of pleasant, sunny drives are on the horizon. Drivers with convertibles can’t wait to drop the top and hit the road for fresh air and snappy gear changes. However, many people don’t have cabriolet versions of peppy coupes. But there’s hope at hand. Below are nine of the best convertibles to grab to enhance driving pleasure as the weather gets warm.

2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata

As the modern version of the classic British roadster, the Japanese Miata has warmed the hearts of enthusiasts for three decades. Even though the Miata has gained weight and amenities over the years, it’s more energetic and well-balanced than ever. Soft-top versions begin at $28,050, and the sleek hardtop RF variant will fetch $35,750.

2023 Ford Mustang

Ford’s Mustang has maintained its 1960s image and style, making it a perennial favorite. The Mustang is offered in three convertible trim levels—EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, and GT Premium. The lowest begins at $33,270 with a 310-horsepower 2.3-liter turbo-four. Potential buyers will have to fork over another $10,000 for the 450-horsepower 5.0-liter V8.

2023 Chevrolet Camaro

As America’s second most-loved muscle car, the convertible Camaro only enhances the symphony of the available 6.2-liter V8. The base model has a less powerful but quite competent 305-horsepower V6. Fortunately, its price starts at a widely-attainable $26,100.

2023 Mini Convertible

Standout styling more than makes up for the Mini’s tiny cargo area. There are three trim levels for the four-seater cabriolet, with prices starting at $33,800.

BMW’s 4 Series delivers an exceptional driving experience with exhilarating performance. It’s quite a head-turner, too. The four-seater comes in two trim levels, the cheapest of which begins at $55,500.

2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

TrueCar says there’s “almost too much tech to digest” in the completely redesigned C-Class convertible. While the roadster starts at $57,250, the most popular of the three trim levels is the more expensive C 300 Cabriolet with rear-wheel drive.

2023 Audi A5

The A5’s understated design and overall refinement make it a relaxing convertible for springtime. With an MSRP of $53,900, it’s one of the lesser expensive luxury cabriolets.

2023 BMW Z4

The comfortable and sophisticated Z4 is a lovely warm-weather car with a duo of potent turbocharged engines. The most expensive convertible variant begins at $65,300, making it a great alternative to a Porsche.

2023 Audi TT

Audi’s handsome convertible TT is an everyday sports car with energetic performance boosted by an all-weather-ready all-wheel drive system. Although it only comes in one trim level, it’s staffed with a 228-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and starts at $56,300.

Which convertible is most worth it?

Given the differences in price, appearance, and performance, the best convertible is likely more subjective than anything. But that won’t stop the decision-making process here. Those looking to snag a convertible may want one as a second car, not as a daily driver. Realistically, any of the cabriolets mentioned above would fare well as all-season cars, especially those available with four-wheel propulsion.

The Mustang and Miata stand out from the crowd on strictly performance-based grounds. Considering their relatively low price points compared to others on the list, it’s a good starting point for a second car. Each has more trim levels to choose from, so more bare-bones configurations are available. If potential buyers want to blast between the stoplights, the Coyote V8-powered Ford Mustang is the best option. But if bending corners is your bag, many would say, “what’s wrong with a Miata?”
