Many adventurers dream of traveling the highways and byways in a camper. Whether you have a travel trailer, motorhome, or camper van, RV’ing is popular among families, retirees, and singles. Cruising is lots of fun during the travel season, but did you know you can also put your RV to good use off-season while it’s sitting at home?

One Insider writer recently revealed how she used a travel trailer in her driveway, but these ideas work with any recreational vehicle. Here are several ways to use your RV while it’s parked outside your home.

1. Guest suite

Perhaps the first obvious use for your RV while it’s sitting in your driveway or backyard is a guest suite. This expands the square footage of your home without having to hire a contractor or decorator. A bonus is that guests have their own kitchen, and being separate from the main house gives visitors the privacy of a guest cottage.

2. Office space

Anyone who owns a business or works remotely can use a parked RV as a home office. It offers quietude away from the main house and a nice boundary between work time and personal time. The RV can be outfitted with your office supplies and give you a space to spread out for projects.

3. RV Airbnb

Make money in the off-season by renting out your RV. Travelers seek out listings that give them privacy and a fun and funky way to spend the night. Airbnb and Outdoorsy offer newcomers plenty of tips on succeeding in renting out spaces.

4. She shed

Your RV is ideal for crafting, sewing, meditating, or reading a book. Add some scented candles, string up some white lights, throw down some fluffy pillows and a comfy blanket, and you’ve got the perfect space to relax and unwind. Don’t forget an assortment of teas and hot cocoas and a kettle to make warm, comforting drinks on the stove or hotplate.

5. Garden shed

Avid gardeners can use their RV as a garden shed. Over the winter, it’s a dedicated space to store tools, organize seeds, and spread out gardening books. Sunny windows are the perfect place to start seeds in the spring without having them take over the house.

6. Teen getaway

If you have teenagers, they will welcome their own hideaway. An RV is the perfect place for a teen game room, homework area, or hang-out space. Parents will welcome the peace, and teens will love the privacy.

7. Practice studio

Speaking of quiet, if you have a child who plays an instrument, a parked RV makes an ideal practice space for the budding musician. Adult musicians will also appreciate the ability to hit some sour notes without everyone in the house hearing it.

8. Video or recording studio

If you have a business, YouTube channel, podcast, or hobby where you post videos, your RV can double as a recording studio. It creates a separate area where you can have quiet and record to your heart’s content in privacy.

9. Storage space

To keep things simple, your RV can offer extra storage space while it’s parked in your driveway. It’s especially ideal if you’re remodeling your home. You can stuff the camper full without having to rent a storage container or move your things off-premises.

If you get creative, you can use your parked RV for anything.
