Car buyers are motivated by a host of factors. Some need speed and performance, while others are more concerned with safety and value. For anyone considering a 2020 Chevy Corvette, the reasons are more than likely thrill-related. But if you haven’t checked out the convertible yet, you might come up with yet another motivation to buy one of these iconic sports cars.

The 2020 Chevy Corvette convertible has a super-cool feature that will make all of your neighbors green with envy. And let’s face it: Showing off in front of the neighbors might play a tiny role in whether you consider buying this legendary sports car.

What a 2020 Chevy Corvette costs these days

Buying a late-model Corvette is generally understood to be a costly investment. General Motors rolled out its pricing platform for the 2020 Chevy Corvette earlier in the year with some noticeable hikes from previous years. Getting a convertible version means tacking an extra $7,500 on to the base-model coupe price of $59,995. Don’t even think about buying a new convertible for less than $67,495. This variance was closer to $4,500 in previous years. So, what’s so expensive about this new convertible variation?

The cool factor that might make this car worth every penny

Sure, the 2020 Chevy Corvette convertible is a higher-priced car, but this cool feature might make it worth every penny. There’s a different drop-top on this curve-hugging machine, and it’s a retractable hardtop, a first-ever for the Corvette. The top can even lower while the car is in motion, up to 30 mph. And even more impressive is the speed with which the top disappears into the trunk: A brief 16 seconds is all it takes to experience the wind in your hair. There’s nothing to manually unlatch either. Engage this Porsche-like hardtop with the touch of a key fob button.

The 2020 Chevy Corvette convertible is more than just a pretty face

If the newly designed, retractable hardtop doesn’t win you over, the 2020 Chevy Corvette convertible has plenty of other impressive features to inspire thrill-seeking excitement. One of Chevy’s most remarkable accomplishments in 2020 might be in engineering the additional cargo space. Whether the top is down or up, you’ll enjoy the same coupe-like cargo space. There’s also a nifty mid-glass power window, which, some critics say, does wonders for the bass when the stereo is playing. And of course, according to Edmunds, you’ll also have the rumble of the 6.2-liter non-turbo V8 under the hood, capable of harnessing 490 horses. There’s also an eight-speed, dual-clutch transmission adding to the exhilarating driving experience.

Making the neighborhood jealous

Imagine cruising through your neighborhood in a 2020 Chevy Corvette convertible while powering down that retractable roof. It would be enough to make your neighbors stop and take notice. And who cares if they question your $70,000 purchase? You’ll have the coolest car on the block and can revel in the satisfaction of putting on a show every time you back out of the garage.

But don’t get too excited about buying a new 2020 Chevy Corvette Convertible just yet. Chevy isn’t taking production orders for this year anymore and plans to finish existing orders. However, you can place your order for a 2021 model, set to begin production early next year. If you want to find an existing 2020 model, start your hunt soon. They’re going fast, and as of a few weeks ago, there were only 52 remaining in the Cars.com national inventory.
