The long wait for the new 2020 Toyota Supra is almost over; at least for most motorists. While getting to drive your brand new Supra fresh off the dealership is sure to be an exciting experience, a few drivers will have to wait a little while longer for it. This is because a few Toyota Supras were wrecked while being transported.

What happened to the new cars and what does this mean for fans waiting to get their hands on the Supra?

A painful sight

While the details of the crash are few and far between, all we can do is put our deduction skills to the test. From the photos shared, many are speculating that the driver of the trailer either hit something after backing up too fast, or an oncoming vehicle rammed into the back of the trailer. What we can all agree on is how heartbreaking the loss is.

Fortunately, there were no reports of fatalities; apart from the at least three wrecked cars. The Supras involved include an Absolute Zero White, Renaissance Red 2.0, and a Tungsten Silver MKV.

For the silver Supra, the damage is quite bad. The white one above seems to have minimal damage, but we can’t be sure. It is hard to see the damage on the red Supra, but it seems as if the silver one was pushed into it.

Though the accident took place in Hungary, the car above has North American side markers while the white one seems to be fitted with the wheels for the four-cylinder model, which is not offered in America. This has led to the assumption that the accident took place while the vehicles were being transported to ships that would take them to different destinations around the world.

It might surprise you to know that these are not the first Supras to crash. One crashed in May this year, at the Nurburgring. Although the ones involved this time are production models; the cars were never, and probably will never be driven. The crash has, however, not deterred the anticipation for the 2020 Supra.

The wait is over

The last time a Toyota Supra hit the showrooms was in 1998. With more than twenty years having passed since then, the 2020 Supra has caused quite the stir among automobile enthusiasts.

With a 3.0-liter inline-six twin-scroll turbocharged engine, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the new Supra produces 335 hp along with 365 lb-ft of torque. It hits speeds of 155 mph and can go from zero to 60mph in a little over four seconds; making it the fastest Toyota production vehicle ever made.

Though it would be easy to get caught up in the nostalgic past the Supra has, the 2020 edition is a forward-looking car. It is still early days though, and a few are still debating on the merits of the new edition. For Supra enthusiasts, however, their long wait is almost over, and they are confident that the 2020 Supra will be worth it.

Though the possible owners of the three crashed Supras might have to wait a little bit more; their wait might not be a long one. This is because the new Supras are being made by Magna Steyr’s Graz plant found in Austria, which is not that far from where the wreck is estimated to have taken place. Let’s just hope the transportation goes much better next time.
