A Ford Bronco Raptor Is Coming
Ford wants to capitalize on the Bronco momentum in every way possible. That means more models and more options. Another popular model, the Raptor, has been very visible and successful within the F150 model lineup. So, combining those two successes makes perfect sense. If you’re Ford and you’re looking for a performance version of the Bronco, what better way than to have a Raptor Bronco. Rumors are swirling that just such a model is coming.
It’s actually a common move within Ford. For any given model it offers an entry-level, a luxury version, and a performance variant. Even the Taurus sedan had a performance version, the SHO. So, what would this Bronco Raptor be like?
The Bronco Raptor won’t see the Coyote V8 or 3.5-liter V6
First, we doubt the Coyote V8 would make its way into a new Bronco. Virtually everything Ford is developing is with an EcoBoost four-cylinder of V6. But according to RevMatchTV the 3.5-liter EcoBoost that powers the F150 Raptor is physically too big to fit within the Bronco’s confines.
But Ford builds more than one V6. The 3.0-liter V6 could be the one to get the Raptor massage. Already available in various mid- and full-size commercial vehicles it’s an impressive engine. With dual-overhead cams and twin-turbocharging, it’s lightweight and packed with power.
In the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, and Continental it comes close to 500 hp. It would offer a stair-step range of engines starting with the base 2.3-liter EcoBoost. A 2.7-liter with 355 hp will probably be the engine for the Bronco R. Then the top of the line Bronco Raptor with the 3.0-liter and maybe 425 hp.
A Bronco Raptor would feature wider bodywork, a lifted chassis, and larger wheels and tires
So Ford would create a nice range of Broncos for every budget and need. We expect the visuals that separate the F150 Raptor from its more staid siblings would be applied to the Bronco Raptor. That would include wider bodywork, a lifted chassis, and larger wheels and tires.
There is more that is leaking out about the 2021 Bronco. We understand that the removable top will be in several sections so that it can be taken off by one person. It also may mean there can be variations of the top sections so that different looks can be made.
Besides the top options, the next generation of the Ford SYNC system will be in the Bronco. We expect the graphics and voice recognition to be improved. The Bronco and Mustang Mach-E are the only two Fords thus far getting the next-gen SYNC system.
We’re getting closer to the 2021 Bronco reveal
We know we’re getting closer to the Bronco reveal but no word from Ford. The new 2021 F150 will be revealed on June 28. There has been some speculation that Ford will also show the Bronco and other new products at this virtual reveal. It would seem to amp up expectations to have a number of new models shown for the first time.
Whatever is the case Ford has one of the most searched models right now with the Bronco. The anticipation is killing many enthusiasts. A Raptor version would create pandemonium.
