An August 2019 sales report revealed that Toyota Motor Company North America sold 248,344 vehicles. That’s an increase of 11.3% in volume compared to August 2018. The Toyota division posted sales of 218,403 units — up 12.3% on a volume basis and 8.3% on a DSR basis. Toyota has earned the trust of the world’s drivers, and sales reflect it. Here’s what you need to know from the automaker’s report.

Toyota’s best-ever August

Several Toyota models posted high sales for a best-ever August. The biggest sales increase was the C-HR at 29.1%. This small crossover has a head-turning appearance and an attractive price. The August sales records also included sales increases for the following models:

• Highlander, 21.7%
• RAV4, 17.2%
• Tacoma, 14.8%
• 4Runner, 3.1%
• Prius Prime, 1.8%.

Toyota celebrates high sales

Sales were up, in general, for the Sequoia, Avalon, Corolla, Tundra, Camry, and Land Cruiser models. The all-new Supra also completed its first full month of sales, with 643 vehicles sold. Here are the exact sales increases of these beloved Toyota models:

• Sequoia, 42.9%
• Avalon, 29.8%
• Corolla, 15.2%, with the Corolla Hatchback celebrating a best-ever August
• Tundra, 12.4%
• Camry, 6.1%
• Land Cruiser, 3.7%

Division increases for Toyota

Total car sales for the Toyota division were up 8.4%. SUVs showed an increase of 17%. Light truck sales increased by 14.5%, making it a best-ever month. Hybrid sales were up a whopping 68.3%. The Lexus division saw a luxury SUV sales increase of 9.2%, with big wins for the RX, ES, RC, and LX trims. Lexus hybrid sales increased by 44.2% as well.

Toyota’s best-sellers

Corolla

Toyota calls it “America’s favorite car,” which just may be true. The Corolla model remains popular with a variety of drivers. With 32 MPG, this fuel-efficient car comes in sedan, hatchback, and hybrid models.

Sequoia 

The Sequoia saw the biggest sales increase of all Toyota cars in August. This large SUV is popular with families who want three-row transportation, which test drives confirm to be comfortable. With driver assists coming standard, the Sequoia came in at No. 4 among SUVs drivers keep the longest.

Avalon

With a base sticker price of $36,600, the Avalon is luxurious yet affordable. Although a suitable 3.5-liter V6 engine is standard, drivers can upgrade to the 215 hp four-cylinder engine for more power.

Tundra

The Toyota Tundra has trail-ready options and a huge back seat. It’s considered one of the most reliable trucks on the road.

Camry

One of the best in its class in the sedan division, the Camry ranked No. 3 as one of the cars drivers keep the longest. Starting at around $25,500, it’s not only reasonably priced, but it scores high on safety. 

Land Cruiser

Drivers not only tend the keep the Land Cruiser longer than any other vehicle, but they also pass these cars down to the next generation. It has even been called the “coolest truck“.

Hybrid vehicles

With an impressive line-up of hybrid models available, Toyota is all-in on the hybrid game. The Corolla is joining the ranks of the Prius, Camry, and Rav4, as the highly efficient car will be available in the U.S. as a hybrid in 2020.
