Tesla CEO Elon Musk is known for his Twitter rampages and vague company projects. But now and then, Musk tweets something prolific. According to Musk, Tesla’s famed Model Y will soon remerge as a family-friendlier, three-row SUV.

The three-row Model Y variants are coming down the pipe sooner than later 

There have been rumors about three-row Tesla models for over a year now, and it looks like the Model Y will be the first available with seven seats. Tesla unveiled the Model Y prototype last fall and began production on this all-new electric crossover in February 2020. Standard Model Ys seat five. The configuration transformation is surprising simply because the Model Y hasn’t been around that long.

As Musk confirmed via Twitter, production for the three-row variants of the Model Y will begin next month. Currently, the Model Y starts at $49,990. Upgrading with the optional third-row adds $3K. Tesla says we can expect the new addition in 2021. 

In a short time, this Tesla has become a top performer 

The Model Y may not get points for its “bloated look,” but it has earned praise for its dynamic performance. Critics favor the Model Y because of its quick acceleration, sharp handling, and smooth ride quality. The Model Y’s long battery range makes it even more impressive. 

You have two performance options to choose from with the Model Y. The current Long Range version has an EPA estimated all-electric range of 316 miles. Tesla claims that the Long Range has a top speed of 135 mph and can go from-0-to-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. It’s also standard with Tesla’s all-wheel-drive. 

For a quicker and sportier experience, you’ll want to consider the Performance variant, which begins at $59,990. This option increases the Model Y’s top speed from 135 mph to 155 mph and goes from 0-to-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The Performance trim also adds a lowered suspension, 21″ Überturbine Wheels, and aluminum alloy pedals. Although, the Performance reduces the Model Y’s range to an estimated 291 miles. 

All new Teslas come with advanced safety features, including emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring designed to make driving easier. Tesla also offers its Full Self-Driving Capability product for those who want to experience autonomous driving. However, this feature is misleading since the company hasn’t worked out all the kinks yet. 

Interior elements

The Model Y’s interior exemplifies Tesla’s minimalist design. Last year, the company made a splash by announcing that this crossover would have a completely vegan car cabin. In addition to its environmentally-focused interior, the Model Y presents desirable in-car tech too.

Standard infotainment features for the Model Y consist of a large display screen, 14-speaker stereo, Bluetooth connection, and four USB ports. Tesla will give you its premium connectivity for one year, which includes in-car internet streaming and satellite maps. However, the company doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity apps.
