Acura recently brought back the Integra, and now it officially announced that it’s bringing back an even more unlikely nameplate – the ZDX. For those who don’t remember, the Acura ZDX was an odd duckling of an SUV produced from 2010 to 2013. But for 2024, the all-new ZDX will make its surprising return as the brand’s first all-electric vehicle.

The 2024 Acura ZDX will be based on the Precision EV Concept

Acura recently debuted the Precision EV Concept at Monterey Car Week, which will be the basis for the Japanese automaker’s electrified products in the future, starting with the ZDX.

“The Acura Precision EV Concept is a design study that will shape the direction of future Acura products in the electrified era, including our first all-electric SUV in 2024,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice president of Acura National Sales, in a press release. “We are committed to delivering Precision Crafted Performance in every facet of the Acura client experience, which includes a powerful and exciting direction for the next generation of electrified Acura models.”

The concept sounds promising. However, no official images of the forthcoming 2024 Acura ZDX have been released yet, and there aren’t too many details on the car yet. But Acura promises that the ZDX will remain true to the company’s ethos of putting the driver first. As such, a Type S variant will be introduced, and the electrified SUV will also feature many of the styling themes that are seen in the Precision EV Concept.

If the past Acura and Honda debuts have shown us anything, that could mean that the ZDX could end up looking a lot like the Concept car.

The ZDX will be co-developed with General Motors

The upcoming 2024 Acura ZDX will ride on a platform that will be co-developed with General Motors. This means the EV will also use GM’s Ultium battery packs, which should provide a range of up to 450 miles. Acura has not released any other technical details on the future ZDX. However, we suspect the Type S variant could be powered by a dual-motor setup. We wouldn’t be too surprised if AWD configurations are used in addition to a FWD layout.

“The Acura ZDX represents the start to what will be an accelerated path toward electrification by the end of the decade and the key role Acura brand will play in our company’s global goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,” Korkor said. “Acura will remain focused on performance in the electrified and Type S will continue to represent the pinnacle of this direction.”

When will the Acura ZDX come out?

According to Acura, we can expect to see the all-new electrified ZDX in the flesh sometime in 2024. In the meantime, you can still pick up a used Acura ZDX if you’re feeling nostalgic. Used car prices are still high, but since the first-generation ZDX wasn’t super popular, they’re still selling for relatively low prices nationwide.

However, just be warned that the tech and practicality will likely be nowhere near what this forthcoming ZDX will have. We’re definitely excited for what Acura’s electrified future holds.
