If you want a cheaper Honda Pilot model, then get ready to hustle. Two of the lower-priced 2021 Honda Pilot models are being dropped from the 2022 lineup. So, the 2022 Honda Pilot is starting with quite the price increase. 

Lower Honda Pilot trims are getting dropped 

If you are into the Honda Pilot, you aren’t alone. It’s a great three-row SUV to consider. However, the 2022 model is about to get more expensive. Two of the lower trim options from 2021 just got the ax. 

The Pilot LX and EX trims are being dropped to provide a new base model that will be aimed at younger buyers and those with active lifestyles. But younger buyers may not have the funds to start with a higher-priced option. 

You can get started in a Pilot LX for about $32,550 and the EX for $35,230. The 2022 Pilot starts at around $36,830. These prices are the MSRPs and don’t include the destination fee or dealership markups. 

So, the base price is effectively rising from $32,500 to $36,830. That’s about an extra $4,000, so we hope the upgrades are worth it. 

What’s new for the 2022 Pilot? 

The 2022 Honda Pilot EX-L is the new base model. While the price is a little high to get started with, it does include plenty of value. For example, the Pilot EX-L comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a sunroof, heated mirrors, a power liftgate, remote engine start, proximity keyless entry, and push-button ignition. 

But the Pilot EX-L may be replaced by the new Honda Pilot Sport. The Sport has an MSRP of $38,055 for the front-wheel drive model. The all-wheel drive model costs $40,055. These prices include the destination fee. 

The Pilot Sport ups the value with 20-inch Gray Alloy wheels, leather seats, and an 8-inch infotainment system. The 8-inch system is now standard across the board, and it replaced the 5-inch unit. 

Plus, the Honda Pilot TrailSport is new for 2022. It’s an off-roading model with a more aggressive grille, unique bumpers, and new wheels. Its track was widened by 0.4-inches to increase stability, and it uses Honda’s i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD and Intelligent Traction Management systems to tackle challenges. 

Is the Pilot worth buying? 

Yes, the Honda Pilot is worth buying. Its pricing is now on par with the Toyota Highlander. The standard 3.5-liter V6 engine provides 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It’s smooth and powerful. Plus, it’s pretty fuel-efficient. The Pilot gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. 

When properly equipped, the Pilot can tow up to 5,000 lbs and carry a payload of 1,684 lbs. It’s very spacious and comfortable. The third row is a little cramped but can fit two average-sized adults. 

SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto come standard. Standard safety features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. 

Despite losing the cheaper trims, the Honda Pilot serves as a well-rounded family SUV. It’s spacious and comfortable with a solid amount of power and perks.
