After Delays, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is Finally Receiving Updates
Plot twist, the new Nissan Frontier has been delayed. Instead of seeing significant updates for the 2021 model, it’s the same old truck. Now you have to wait for the 2022 Nissan Frontier to come out for updated looks, power, tech, and more.
The 2022 Nissan Frontier will finally be redesigned
We already spent the past year eagerly waiting for the brand new 2021 Nissan Frontier, but now there’s a plot twist. The new model has been delayed until 2022. But why do we have to wait for the 2022 Nissan Frontier now?
According to USA Today, the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) has caused several delays in the auto industry. Auto manufacturers shut down to protect workers, and some begin producing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and masks to help frontline workers.
Also, some auto manufacturers are facing production shortages due to equipment delays. Even the highly anticipated Ford Bronco has been met with delays, but hopefully, we can get back on track for 2021.
What to expect with the new Nissan Frontier
While the 2021 Frontier will be the same old truck with the design it has had for the past 17 years, the 2022 Nissan Frontier will be quite different. It will have a more rugged and confident look.
Expect to see a wider grille with new LED headlights. Instead of having its own unique style, it will be like a baby Titan. So, if you like the boxy style of the Titan but want a smaller truck, you’ll be pretty happy.
The 2021 Frontier has a 3.8-liter V6 engine that pumps out 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. This engine option will be carried over to the 2022 model year and may benefit from being tested by 2021 models.
When Car and Driver tested a 2020 Nissan Frontier with the new powertrain, they didn’t notice an increase in performance, so maybe it’s just not ready yet. It also pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission with rear or four-wheel drive.
2022 Nissan Frontier features
One of the most significant improvements made to the 2022 Nissan Frontier will include a new interior. This is the most outdated part of the truck. From spy shots, you can see a plush interior to hopefully increase comfort. Getting rid of cheap plastics for higher quality materials would certainly be an upgrade.
Also, there is a larger infotainment screen. It’s safe to expect that the new infotainment center will have much needed updated graphics and speed. It will need to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto too.
Hopefully, the new Frontier will be safer, too, with a standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking. Optional features may include adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.
But what we look forward to most includes the new Nissan Frontier Pro 4X model. While details are currently limited, we would like to see an updated off-roading variant to tackle the Jeep Gladiator and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.
New shocks, skid plates, off-roading modes, upgraded tires, off-roading modes, and more could come with its new look. Of course, this is if the 2022 model doesn’t face any more delays, which could be possible due to COVID-19.
