If you’re in the market for an RV or camper van, you might be faced with the challenge of what brand or type to choose. That’s especially true if you’re looking for luxury. The Airstream brand won’t steer you wrong, and it offers more than just their iconic trailers. Nowadays, Airstream sells a conversion van built from a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter base.

MotorTrend lists some camper vans you can find on the market today with pretty cool features. The Airstream Interstate 19 is among them. But it’ll cost you a pretty penny.

The Airstream Interstate 19 at a glance

Airstream is well known for its retro-style polished-aluminum trailers. So who would’ve thought the company would introduce a smaller alternative to a trailer? Well, it did, but this vehicle doesn’t wear the signature aluminum shell. This one is a camper van.

It’s not exactly your average camper van, though. This Airstream is built from a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. As the name implies, it’s 19 feet long, seats four people, and sleeps two, according to Airstream. A kitchen nook holds a small stove, sink, and microwave oven. You can plug it into camp electrical boxes or an onboard generator.

You’ll also find a small bathroom fashioned after a European-style wet bath. It comprises a small sink, shower, and toilet. There’s a storage nook to hold your shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries. To save room, the shower head doubles as the sink faucet.

A 3.0-liter turbo diesel V6 engine powers the Airstream Interstate 19. It also boasts plenty of advanced safety features, including rear- and side-view cameras, lane-keeping assist, and collision prevention assistance. There are also airbags.

The Interstate 19’s big feature

The Airstream Interstate 19 has the largest bed in its class. During the day, the sleeping area can separate into a sofa and two large side chairs for relaxing or entertaining.

When nighttime rolls around, the sofa can fold out into a bed with just a touch of a button. The side chairs are hinged, so they fold down flat and attach to the sofa bed to become one large unit.

Another interesting thing about this bed is that it takes up the whole rear of the van. Most campers this size have small beds that don’t give you much room to move around and get comfortable in. But the Interstate 19’s bed measures 66 by 73 inches. That’s six inches wider than a standard queen-sized mattress.

How does it compare to other models in the Airstream lineup?

According to Airstream, the Interstate 19 starts at $165,143. That’s an eye-popping price, but it’s a luxurious vehicle that spares no expense. And thanks to its small stature, it’s a bargain compared to Airstream’s other touring coaches.

There’s also the Interstate 24GL and Interstate 24GT. The 24GT measures 24 feet long and can seat up to seven people. The 24GL is the same length, but it can hold nine people. Expect to pay at least $194,256 for each of these models.

Airstream’s top-of-the-line camper van is the Atlas. This model is also 24 feet long, but it only seats up to four people. What makes it stand out in the lineup is the powered slide-out partition you can extend for more space. That’ll come in handy for entertaining a few friends. The price for this model? A cool $244,046.

Airstream is a brand that doesn’t disappoint, and the Interstate 19 is no exception. It’s a smaller, modern-styled camper van, but it offers the same luxury you’d expect from the iconic aluminum-trailers maker.
