An All-Electric Jeep Wrangler Is On The Way
Eventually, everything on the road will become electric, or at least carbon neutral. Even a Jeep, so get used to it. But this could be just as much fun, and it is arriving before 2023.
The first all-electric Jeep Wrangler is set to debut by 2023
Though parent company Stellantis has been late to the electrification zeitgeist it is making up for lost time. It has just been announced that the first all-electric Jeep Wrangler is set to debut by 2023. Stellantis needed to announce something soon about electrifying its vehicle lines so as not to seem outdated.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the brand’s first shot across the electric bow. Not surprisingly, the full run of 2022 hybrids has already sold out. Based on that alone, Jeep now says that 70-percent of sales are expected to be some form of electrification by 2025.
Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer will be getting hybrid power soon
Now it is touting the launch of the WL Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid coming before the end of this year. Both the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be seeing the same power system soon after.
On the heels of those launches, we’ll see the Wrangler EV. If you saw the Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept at the 2021 Moab Easter Safari then you’ve pretty much seen it. And yes, it will have a manual transmission.
In Europe Jeep makes a hybrid Compass and Renegade. And in China, there is a plug-in Commander SUV. So Jeep is more invested in electrification than you might have thought. And Stellantis is not focussing solely on the Jeep brand.
Over at Dodge electrification is on the front burner
Dodge is preparing its own electric SUV and Charger EV. They’re slated to be here before 2024. Stellantis has a variety of electric platforms for nearly every size of the vehicle. The Charger EV will ride on Stellantis’ “STLA Large” battery-electric platform.
Stellantis is also preparing for the launch of the Hornet hybrid SUV. It should be in showrooms by 2022. This one will use the Alfa Romeo Tonale platform, based on previous sources.
These new electrified Jeep and Dodge vehicles are just far enough from launch for there to be little info floating around. By this time next year there should be a lot more to chew on, so come back to MotorBiscuit for updates.
