The only thing that seems to be as much of a guaranteed paycheck as the electric truck is Marvel movies. With the Rivian and Tesla Cyber truck coming in hot, the competition for electric 4x4s is getting pretty stiff. While the Marvel movies have been printing money at will for over a decade, the EV makers are trying to follow suit. Like EVs, Marvel’s habbit of printing money at will, will likely continue for some time. So it looks like Jeep might be trying to mix the two money factories with the newly announced all-electric Jeep Wrangler with a supervillian’s name. 

Is there an electric Jeep Wrangler? 

Jeep recently announced the upcoming debut of the first all-electric Wrangler, which will be unveiled at the legendary Easter Jeep Safari in Moab this year. As Gear Patrol reports, this new E-Wrangler will likely carve a new path for the iconic 4×4 to live in the modern world. And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Jeep might also be making us X-Men fans very stoked with the new name of the futuristic 4×4. (Take a minute and see if you can guess the name before you read it.) 

Times up. Gear Patrol notes that CarBuzz has found Stellantis has filed for a trademark for the name “Magneto.” I know, right! The trademark application was filed specifically for “motor vehicles, namely concept motor vehicles.” Although there is no guarantee that this badass name is associated with the new electric Jeep Wrangler, it feels fairly likely given the power source of the 4×4. 

The X-Men villain gets a shot at redemption

In case you aren’t among the initiated of the comic book world, Magneto is one of the original, main bad guys in the X-Men story arch. He is the leader of the bad group of mutants. His name comes from the fact that his superpower can manipulate the electromagnetic field and thereby move and control metal objects. It seems like a fitting name for an electric-powered SUV. 

After Jeep landed Bill Murray and Bruce Springsteen as celebrity spokes-folks, I think I speak for all nerddom when I say fingers are crossed that we see Gandalf, I mean Sir Ian McKellen in a few Jeep ads. 

What can we expect from the Jeep Magneto (yeah, I’m using it.) 

Jeep has yet to tell us much about what will power the Magneto, but there has been a cutaway diagram released that gives a little glimpse of what we can expect. The diagram shows a traditional-looking gearbox and transfer case, which would suggest that the electric motor would be sending power to the front and rear depending on where it needed it. 

It has become fairly common that most 4×4 EVs will use one motor per set of wheels like the Hummer EV will have. However, the Jeep diagram doesn’t seem to be that way. The diagram shows a more traditional gearbox and transfer case placement, suggesting that there will only be one electric motor, and it will sit up front just like every other Jeep in history (as far as I know at least.)

Jeep has only put out a darkened exterior image and this diagram so far as teasers. It is still a pretty big mystery. Even the use of Magneto is a mystery. So, we don’t know for sure what it will be called, we don’t what will power it or how it will work, and we have no clue when a production model is coming. All we know for sure is that we are stoked. Jeep hopping onboard signals a lot about the future of four-wheeling, and EVs roll in the future of off-road motorsport.
