Harley, Yamaha, and others are discontinuing a number of bikes in 2021. Some, we’re glad to see them go. But others are like old friends that have been around for years. Still, we know that with the old going out there is a lot of new coming in. So here are the motorcycles that will be killed off in 2021.

Harley-Davidson

Harley Sportster

The Harley Sportster has been around for over 60 years-that’s incredible when you think about it. With the aftermarket digging into the Sportster all of these years there are probably more products than for any other bike. The first of the Sportsters to go will be the Iron 1200 followed shortly by the Iron 883 and Forty-Eight. Once those are sold out it will be the end of the Harley Sportster. 

Harley Streets

All of the Street iterations have never fared well in spite of having been around since 2014. So the Street 500, Street 750, and Street Rod have all been axed in 2021. We’ll have to see what Harley has in the coffers to replace this segment. 

Yamaha

Yamaha R6 and VMAX

Yamaha’s big cruiser first appeared as the V-Max in 1985. It saw a major redesign in 2009. The infamous V-Boost was like turbo boost without the turbo. Basically, it opened the butterfly valves at high rpm for an additional gulp of air. But 2021 is the end of the line for the power cruiser. 

Yamaha YZF-R6

The YZF-R6 was introduced in 1999 and redesigned in 2008. Yamaha is still selling these for off-road use called R6 Race but not after 2021. 

Yamaha WR250R dual-sport and SMAX scooter

Both will be gone in 2021.

Ducati

Ducati Monsters

While the liquid-cooled 937 will soldier on the Monster 797 joins the Monster 1200 going out of production in 2021. If you want an air-cooled Ducati there is still the 803 Scrambler Nightshift. 

KTM

KTM Duke 690 and Duke 790

Out for only two years, the 790 Duke will be done after 2021. The good news is that the new 890 Duke and Adventures are sure to outdo the Duke 690 and 790 as KTM moves forward.

Soon to Depart

Though still in production there are a number of bikes that are on the verge of being killed off. These include the Yamaha Super Ténéré and FJR1300-which have already been axed in Europe. With Europe clamping down on emissions there are other models that once they’re gone in Europe won’t see much more daylight in the US. 

Honda’s V-four bikes are on the way out which means the VFR800F, VFR800X Crossrunner or VFR1200X-which is available here, but not for long. These will meet their demise due to Honda deciding not to bring them up to Euro5 specs. See ya!
