Hyundai Motor Group first launched its luxury brand division, Genesis, back in 2015. Genesis found early success with its sizeable G90 sedan, and its midsize G80 sedan generated buzz. And although this carmaker’s origin story was just beginning, Genesis was planning for a rebirth for summer 2020, until COVID-19 intensified.

Genesis had no choice but to reschedule its product launches since the pandemic impacted tasks such as vehicle emissions certifications, as AutoNews reports. Now that the brand has adjusted to the industry’s current environment, Genesis is ready to resume its revival for the fall. Here are the fresh-new Genesis products we can look forward to in the coming year. 

G70

The 2021 G70 will be the last to have a manual transmission as an option. This upscale compact car provides a variety of amenities at a valued cost. It can even hold its own against models like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. There aren’t many notable changes to the 2021 G70, but we expect the 2022 version to have more gleaming features. 

G80

While Genesis is still establishing itself as a luxury brand, its 2021 G80 is enough to make long-time class leaders like BMW worry. The G80 is stunning inside and out. For 2021, the G80 will feature an updated interior design and camera-based adaptive suspension. It will also feature two engines, both linked to an eight-speed automatic: a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 that makes 300-hp and a 375-hp, 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Genesis has discontinued the V8 option.

G90

Hyundai created its Genesis sub-brand after the success of its Hyundai Genesis sedan.The G90 was the first standalone model under the new division. This model, in particular, dazzled us in 2020 with its sleek exterior and plush cabin. The 2020 G90 comes with Nappa leather upholstery and an elegant infotainment system. It also stands out with two potent engine options. A redesign for this model is expected in 2022.

GV70

We’re still awaiting more details on the GV70, Genesis’ small crossover SUV. Genesis has only hinted at the vehicle’s design at this point. The GV70 will most likely come with a turbo-four with a turbo-V6 available as an option. It won’t be on sale till 2022, though.

GV80

You could say that the GV80 is arguably the most anticipated model to arrive under Genesis’ brand relaunch. Like the other models on this list, the GV80 features the same flashy hexagon-inspired grill and has unique interior trimmings. This SUV also has the same engine options as the G80. The GV80 will compete with the likes of the Mercedes GLE-Class and will be available with an optional third-row. We can expect this model to hit the streets in 2021.

Electric Vehicle 

Of course, we are expecting an all-electric vehicle under the Genesis umbrella. Hyundai recently announced that it’s creating a separate EV brand under the name Ioniq. The Genesis EV will align with this new strategy and will launch by the end of 2021.
