Ambitious Driver Manages to Get 3 Speeding Tickets in One Day

The sight of a police officer’s flashing red and blue lights rarely results in good time. Whether you’re pulled over for speeding or any other traffic infraction, one stop is enough to rattle your system. However, one ambitious Volkswagen Passat driver decided that one speeding ticket just wasn’t enough. According to KTLA 5, a person renting a Volkswagen Passat managed to get three separate speeding tickets on the same day.

The fastest speeding ticket was for hitting 119 mph in a 70 mph zone

Like we’ve seen in other stories covering massive speeding tickets, the California Highway Patrol has used social media in 2020 to showcase speeders. This speeding ticket story featuring a 2018 Passat is no different. From the image posted to Instagram, we can clearly see all three of the speeding tickets.

The first ticket was issued at 9:07 a.m. for reaching 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. What makes this ticket particularly interesting pertains to the time it was issued. This likely means there was morning rush hour traffic on the road. While 25 mph over the limit is nothing to scoff at, CHP issued the citation, and the driver was on their way.

The second ticket was reportedly issued shortly after the first at 10:45 a.m. While it would make sense to slow down after the first, this driver was certainly relentless. CHP clocked the Passat driver hitting 119 mph in a 70 mph zone. As you’d expect, this speeding ticket is not like the others. Since the recorded speed exceeds 100 mph, it is a more serious offense with heftier fines.

The third and final citation was issued later in the afternoon. After taking a break from breaking the law, the driver was yet again caught going 62 mph in a 40 mph zone. With the three tickets in hand, CHP took to Instagram to state, “Please think twice before we stop you three times.”

Given the number of speeding tickets received, it would be easy to assume the driver in question is riding around in a flashy sports car. However, as mentioned earlier, the car in question is a 2018 Volkswagen Passat. We know the make and model based on the ticket CHP posted to Instagram. The citation also shows that the Volkswagen is indeed a rental car. Since rental companies rarely purchase high trim levels, this relentless speeder was likely pushing a base model. Under the hood most likely lives a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine developing 174 hp.

While there is almost no information about the driver, we know from the citation that they hold a valid California driving license. Additionally, we know they at least traveled from Barstow to LA, California. This is because CHP officers stopped the driver in both cities. Whoever the driver is, they chose quite an unusual ride for a day of speeding.

How much will this speedy day cost?

As you’d expect, speeding tickets are certainly not cheap. While one citation is enough to ruin your day, three could potentially cause a serious financial situation. According to NerdWallet, each ticket could cost the driver between $238 to $490. Once you add that one of them was issued for going over 100 mph, there could be serious fines and points awarded to the driver’s license. Regardless, hopefully, the third time is the charm, and this infamous speeder finally learns their lesson.
