Ford likes to remind us that its F-series is “America’s favorite truck.” Between the half-ton F-150 and the Super Duty from the F-250 on up, it is more popular than any other single badge. But when some researchers used a computer algorithm to rank the “angriness” of the words used in over 24,000 car reviews they found the truck that inspired the worst language is the Ford F-350.

So who are these fancy analysts and how did they come up with this newfangled data? The study was conducted by the “Lemon Law Experts” which helps vehicle owners use the lemon law to claim money they’re owed for defective new cars. It began with the simple question, “Which cars make Americans the angriest?”

The researchers used a computer program which analyzes written language to guess how angry a person was while they wrote it. Then they fed the program 24,000 reviews of 87 makes and models written across 25 years on the Consumer Affairs website. They gave each make and model a score out of 100 based on the percentage of reviews containing “angry” language, and just how severe that language was. Here are the results.

Make/ModelAnger Rating
Kia Sedona99.30
Mazda387.89
Nissan Armada87.70
Ford F-35086.97
Dodge Journey86.31
Dodge Charger84.49
Nissan Maxima84.21
Ford Focus83.94
Nissan Frontier83.15
Nissan Titan83.14

In the past 25 years there have been many Super Duty recalls. In addition, Ford’s made controversial decisions such as the infamous 6.0-liter Power Stroke engine. But does the high rate of angry reviews mean the Ford F-350 Super Duty is a bad truck? Heavens no!

All we know for sure, is that a higher percentage of the reviews contain “angry” language than any other truck. So perhaps buyers of Super Duty trucks expect them to run without issue and don’t leave “happy” reviews when the sailing is smooth. Or perhaps the folks who drive F-350 Super Duties are more likely to use…”choice”…language that can trigger the computer program.
