If you’re a Dodge Durango fan, then it’s time to celebrate. It’s official. The Dodge Durango isn’t dead! It’s just old. But it won’t feel outdated for much longer because it will be redesigned for 2024. Let’s see what to expect. 

The 2024 Dodge Durango will finally be redesigned 

The Dodge Durango is an excellent SUV to consider, but it hasn’t been redesigned since 2011. That makes it a dinosaur. Production of the current generation is slated to end in 2023, which made people think the Durango was being canceled. 

Plus, the Jeep Grand Cherokee used to share a platform with the Durango, but now the Jeep Grand Cherokee L uses the Stellantis Giorgio platform. This also led to the idea that the Durango was going to bite the dust. 

However, the Durango is on track to hit 60,000 sales in the United States this year, so it’s still popular and profitable. But if you wait a little longer, you can opt for the totally redesigned Durango. 

What to expect with the new Durango 

Reportedly, the new Dodge Durango will be twins with the body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer instead of the unibody Jeep Grand Cherokee. This means that the Durango could gain more off-roading capabilities, but we hope it sticks to its racing roots. 

The North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan, builds the Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee. But it’s struggling to meet demand. Even with the neighboring Detroit Assembly Complex building Cherokee models, it’s still behind. 

So, moving the Durango to the Warren Truck Assembly plant in Warren, Michigan would free up space in Detriot. This is where the Wagoneer is produced. Also, if the Ram 1500 Classic is discontinued, there will be more space for the Durango. 

The Jeep Wagoneer has a high price tag of about $60,000. By having the Dodge Durango start at a lower price of about $50,000 would allow it to compete against lower-priced rivals such as the Chevy Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Toyota Sequoia. 

Based on these rivals, the Durango could get a little longer and wider to match the size of these rivals. Also, it could be based on the Ram 1500, like the Toyota Sequioa is based on the Toyota Tundra. 

Is the 2021 Durango worth buying? 

Yes, if you don’t want to wait for the new Durango to arrive, you can get started in a 2021 model for about $33,877. This price is pretty good, considering how much value is included. Plus, the new model will probably have a markup. 

The Dodge Durango has four engine options that provide between 293 to 710 hp. The Hellcat is the most powerful variant. When properly equipped, the Durango can tow up to 8,700 lbs. We expect the new model to tow more. 

An 8.4-inch infotainment display comes standard, but you can upgrade to a 10.1-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The optional infotainment system includes dual screens with HDMI and RCA ports. 

While the new Durango is expected to have more power and extra space, the 2021 Dodge Durango is still an excellent option to consider. It has plenty of comfort, convenience, and muscle for daily driving and road trips.
