Does Anyone Care About the Tesla Cybertruck Anymore?
The Tesla Cybertruck was once the most anticipated electric pickup truck in its vehicle segment. Today, the Cybertruck has faded into obscurity as Tesla competitors produce exciting new electric trucks. Does anyone even care about the Cybertruck anymore?
It’s been three years since the Tesla Cybertruck debuted
The Tesla Cybertruck made a huge splash in the industry when it was first revealed. The electric pickup truck’s design is futuristic and sleek. The Cybertruck doesn’t resemble any other vehicle in existence.
Celebrities quickly got behind the innovative electric truck and Cybertruck concepts have been featured in popular music videos like Travis Scott’s Gang Gang video. The truck is intriguing, but it has been delayed several times.
Delays in Cybertruck production have made room for competitors to swoop in and capture the attention of potential buyers. The Cybertruck debuted way back in 2019. Since then, two electric pickup trucks have hit assembly lines with more on the way and still no Cybertruck.
It’s tough for fans and potential buyers to remain excited about a vehicle with no clear release date as more rivals pop up in the industry. The Rivian R1T is currently the quickest pickup truck on the market, and it’s an off-roading beast. The Ford F-150 Lightning has amazing utility. GM’s first electric truck, the Silverado EV, is on the way. So the question is, Cybertruck who?
There are plenty of exciting electric trucks that will be produced before the Cybertruck
Tesla should understand the importance of beating competitors to the market more than anyone. The electric vehicle and clean energy company has enjoyed great success in recent years because it dominated the total electric vehicle market share. Today, several competitors are reducing Tesla’s EV market share and toppling some of its best-selling models.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is already beating the Tesla Model Y electric SUV in sales in Europe. Tesla is losing its grip on the EV throne, and the delay of the Cybertruck isn’t helping the company. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has expressed his concerns about the current supply chain crisis and believes that attempting to produce a new nameplate with a lack of materials would be counterproductive. Instead, the company is looking to different projects, like the Teslabot.
Before the Tesla Cybertruck hits the streets, there will be several other exciting alternatives that are readily available. Ford and Rivian have already produced electric trucks that are both competitive and capable.
Is the Tesla Cybertruck irrelevant?
There’s no doubt that Tesla will sell plenty of Cybertrucks once the electric pickup truck is actually available, but the longer the automaker takes to release the new EV, the less impactful its release will be. The Cybertruck will have to be affordable and practical to compete against models like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevy Silverado EV.
According to InsideEVs, Ford and General Motors will control more of the total electric vehicle market share than Tesla by 2025. How will Tesla fare against two of the big three American automakers in the years to come?
