Massive is the first word that comes to mind when looking at the Arctic Trucks’ Ford F-150. Those ginormous 44-inch Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires draw you right in. In case you were wondering, they are 475/70 R 17 tires at 18-inches wide. They weigh in at 154 lbs each. Unsprung weight? What’s that? Their scale gives the F-150 a whole other proportion than anything other than a monster truck has. Conquering the untamed stretches of wilderness seems like it will be a breeze with this beast. 

Arctic Trucks, headquartered in Norway, is known for its zeal in approaching off-road ventures in an oversize sort of way. Curb weight is 5,000 lbs, so it’s not so nimble as it is scorched earth. Those thick fender flares give the body some protection from the 44-inch hoops. Attached so high onto the body also visually slims up the body like it has been sectioned. But, of course, it hasn’t. It’s just that huge rollers have a tendency to change a vehicle’s looks.

This Ford F-150 Lariat beams with assuredness starting with the 375 hp EcoBoost V6. The twin-turbocharged grunts out 470 ft-lbs of torque at 3,500 rpm. Hanging off of that is a ten-speed SelectShift automatic transmission splitting gears to the all-wheel-drive hoopties. The lifted rear is supported by a leaf spring setup.

As a Lariat spec, the interior is slathered in leather. It also features touchscreen infotainment and heated seats. The front suspension is an independent double-wishbone affair with its stamped A-arms and coil-over shocks. Arctic has been coy about many other details so we cannot speculate on whatever else has been done to guarantee total desert domination. We do know that Arctic is planning on following this up with a suspension kit for the F-150.

In a video, Arctic Trucks’ CEO Emil Grimsson said, “With this flotation, this power, low center of gravity, and long wheelbase, doing the steeper hills was a pleasure and easily outperformed most other vehicles that came along.” With that amount of ground clearance, we would expect nothing less. 

Setting the tire pressure at 2.5 psi Grimsson says, the F-150 will “push through and leave behind a well-compressed track.” Even better, “With this flotation, this power, low center of gravity and long wheelbase, doing the steeper hills was a pleasure and easily outperforming most other vehicles that came along.”
