According to the Cars.com 2022 American-Made Index, Jeep makes the Cherokee in Belvidere, Illinois. The Belvidere Assembly Plant has assembled the Cherokee since 2017 and previously built other Jeep models. Jeep built the Compass SUV at the Belvidere Assembly Plant from 2007 through 2016 and the Patriot in the same time frame. This was enough to land the Jeep Cherokee in seventh place on this year’s American-Made Index.

Cars.com uses five criteria to determine which cars, trucks, and SUVs are the most American-made. These criteria are assembly location, parts content, engine origins, transmission origins, and U.S. manufacturing workforce. That means your reliable American SUV is actually living up to its name.

At any rate, the Jeep Gladiator SUV came in at number 40 and is produced in Toledo, Ohio. The Toledo Assembly Complex produces the Gladiator and sometimes the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited SUVs. For 2022, Jeep builds the Grand Cherokee in the Detroit, Michigan area. This Stellantis factory recently opened and began producing the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L.

Most Jeep vehicles made in America are also sold in America

Jeep produces the new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer outside of Detroit, in Warren, Michigan. The Warren Truck Assembly Plant has the honor of building the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, one of the first non-Dodge vehicles to come off the production line.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), now Stellantis, announced it invested $1 million in upgrading and retooling the plant for new vehicles. The company has invested $14.5 billion since 2009, thanks to its U.S. industrialization plan. In fact, FCA continues to expand the Jeep and Ram brands, plus the electrification the most popular models.

Jeep has added about 30,000 jobs thanks to these new and improved facilities. The Jefferson North, Sterling, and Warren sites are all capable of building plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle versions of the Jeep lineup. Similarly, Jeep builds the new Wrangler Unlimited 4xe hybrid electric SUV in the Toledo Assembly Complex in Ohio.

Jeep builds the 2022 Compass in the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico. Jeep will sell this version in North America and has made the SUV since 2017. Stellantis builds some versions of the Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs not sold in the U.S. at the Carabobo Assembly in Valencia, Carabobo, Venezuela.

This year, Jeep was named the most patriotic automaker and brand for the 20th year in a row. In conclusion, no matter which Jeep vehicle you end up in, the automaker has been working hard on bringing production back into the USA.
