BMW will soon release an all-new Competition Sport model: the 2022 M5 CS. The German automaker announced the new sport sedan late last month. Though all of the M models are high-performance, this version is even more powerful. In a world dominated by white, black, gray, and silver cars, the 2022 BMW M5 CS stands out with gold-bronze accents.

Here’s what we know so far.

The first-ever BMW M5 CS

The BMW M5 CS is “more hardcore in a number of ways” than the standard M5, Autoblog reports. As with other CS models, the M5 CS is more powerful and weighs less. It will come in at 230 pounds lighter than the M5 Competition. The weight drop comes partially from carbon fiber parts, including the hood, bucket seats, front splitter, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler, BMW explains. The car also boasts lightweight rear bucket seats. And according to Robb Report, the automaker also reduced sound-deadening materials.

The BMW M5 CS will also get a power boost, but the torque will remain the same. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine will generate 627 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. That’s 10 hp more than the M5 Competition model. The M5 CS also has an eight-speed automatic transmission; a manual isn’t available. And it will have all-wheel drive like the M5 Competition.

The increased horsepower and lighter weight make the BMW M5 CS the automaker’s most powerful and fastest car. It can roar from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 2.9 seconds. That’s 0.2 seconds faster than the M5 Competition, Robb Report says. It tops out at 190 mph. BMW fine-tuned the suspension on the Nürburgring.

The M5 CS will sport Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires at no extra cost. Matched especially to the M5 CS, they measure 275/35 for the front and 285/35 for the back. Also standard are carbon-ceramic rotors with red brake calipers.

The M5 CS will come in new matte colors, including Frozen Deep Green and Frozen Brands Hatch Grey. And its four stainless-steel exhaust pipes are designed to be louder.

The 2022 BMW M5 CS’s gold-bronze accents

The new BMW M5 CS will generally look like the M5 and M5 Competition but feature gold-bronze accents. Its red brake calipers will peer through gold-painted forged wheels. The distinctive color will also appear on the grilles and badging. And BMW’s racecars inspired the M5 CS’s yellow front running lights.

Gold-bronze touches will continue inside. The interior will also feature red CS badging and illuminated M5 logos. It will also have Alcantara suede upholstery, an Alcantara steering wheel and headliner, and the BMW iDrive 7 infotainment system. Plus, the digital gauge cluster will have more available info than the standard M5.

Will the style appeal to buyers?

BMW likely hopes the gold-bronze accents will provide the right degree of flash to appeal to luxury performance buyers. This isn’t the only time BMW has gone for gold. The M5 CS’s gold-bronze wheels are similar to those on the M2 CS. The automaker also offers a Golden Thunder package on the 8-Series (though not in the U.S., Autoweek reports). And Toyota uses gold on one of its special trims. According to Car and Driver, the 2020 Toyota 86 Hakone Edition is dark green with bronze wheels.

The 2022 BMW M5 CS is a limited-edition model. It will be available in North America, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia for only one year. Starting at $142,995, the M5 CS will offer plenty of upgrades at an up-charge.
